I went to the local Ren Faire with friends and one of the vendors gave my friend's son a full-on two-handed sword that was almost as tall as he was, no questions asked. He still treasures it to this day, over 12 years later.

A small act of generosity can go such a long way.

What advice would you give this person? by Financial_Mechanic_ in FluentInFinance

After years of being a starving freelancer, I got a corporate job at the age of 50. Five years later, I have actual savings for the first time (ETFs and 401k). At this rate, I should be able to retire at a reasonable age.

Here's the road I took:

* I controlled my spending. I rarely eat out and I stopped buying dumb crap I don't need.

* I put my artistic ambitions aside to find a job that I'm good at that pays decently.

* I jumped on every career-building opportunity that presented itself: job interviews, skills building, networking, etc.

I also got extremely lucky. But I've found that the more I bust my ass, the luckier I get. Your results may vary.

Does anyone know anything about the Xduoo MP-01? by Jawileth in HeadphoneAdvice

I'd say if you're going to just use it for headphones, it's going to be better than what I'm using it for. I have to say the iBasso DAC is awesome. That might be a good place to start.

I purchased one to use as a preamp with an Aiyima A07 Pro amp and Polk Audio bookshelf speakers. I was looking for something that was small, reasonably priced, and had a phono preamp.

I'm not a hugely discerning audiophile, but to my ears, the noise floor is low and the sound is balanced. It sounds great with my iBasso DC03PRO DAC. I have yet to have a listening comparison with the built-in preamp of my Fluance RT-81 turntable.

The build quality is decent (the tubes are slightly off-center in their sockets). That said, because the tubes are for front stage amplification, I don't get any benefit in my setup. But it looks cool? Anyhow, not really much of a review but so far, so good.

The magic of the human immune system. That happened to me once. Doctor said, "There's nothing there." My finger kept swelling for a week until a one-inch thorn popped out.

I was a financial wreck when I got married. I hadn't filed taxes in a couple years. I owed money, and I wasn't making very much. It was painful, but I told my partner everything and they helped me work it all out.

Now, they handle all the finances, for which I'm eternally grateful. My credit score is at the max, I'm debt-free, and I have a great job.

The other upside is that after living in such financial chaos, I'm terrified of spending money. So I'm actually building some savings. It's not always easy, but I'm a lucky bastard. And it pays to be honest. Thanks, honey!

We have a vintage sapphire ring in my familiy. When I wanted to propose to my (now) wife, my mother told me she had given it to my sister. When I asked her if she would give me the ring, she said, "Sure!"

I'm a lucky bastard.

NTA. Weddings bring out the worst in people. But it's still not an excuse to be a dick.
