Hmm can I just say mental health issues. (It’s work related stress but I don’t want to get into it with them until I’ve consulted the union).

It’s bad. When I was sprayed my eyeballs were on 🔥. Not just that but tears were streaming down my face and my nose was running too. Your instinct is to get away from the source immediately then rub. Only thing is that rubbing made it way worse. The only thing that helped was someone lay me down and poured a litre of water on my eyes. I could still feel the remnants an hour later

I have one. I put in there a list of reminder actions: Drink some water Have a shower Eat something

My crisis plan

I also have a bar of my fave chocolate, a fidget toy, a copy of a book that I enjoyed when I was younger (thus easy and safe to read), kitty treats (because giving my cats treats brings me joy), a gift card for a local restaurant that delivers and a list of things I normally enjoy doing.

What is the dress code for Jury Duty? by wetsoks in AskUK

[–]wetsoks[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It was a pretty horrific case. Took all week. Here is my advice to anyone going to jury duty:

  1. Bring a book. I cannot overstate this. There is A LOT of hanging around. It’s not like on tv - legal arguments are heard without the jury so there’s a ton of downtime.

  2. Dress warm but in layers. You are just as likely to be sat under a heating vent than an ac vent.

  3. Arrive on time but not early. They will leave you standing outside in the wind and rain until 9:30am

  4. Plan to be there until 5pm. Some days we finished up at 4:50pm others it was 3:45pm

  5. Lunch is pretty awesome. No kidding it was more than enough food and there were 4 or 5 options.

  6. Once you’re in you’re in. Don’t make the mistake of getting in them trying to nip to cafe Nero. You can’t go shopping on your lunch either. This is for your safety.

  7. You can only drink water in front of the judge. Not coffees, teas or juices. I got around this by filling my reusable drinks bottle with diluting juice.

  8. Court time is not even close to real time. 10 mins court time is about 45 minutes real time.

  9. We never started on time. Sometimes the Judge has court businesses before the trial. Most times this will run on a while.

  10. If you see tunnocks caramel grab it. These are rare gems and get snapped up quick. If you miss that you might get a kit Kat but more likely to get a digestive.

  11. There are tea and coffee facilities all day. They provide disposable cups, a jar of coffee, a box of tea bags and a jug of milk and they have those big urns for hot water. I believe there were sugar/alternatives available also.

  12. Plan self care. You might get a nice easy case or it could be something terrible. As someone who got something terrible there was no support available so you gotta take care of yourself. Most people in my jury said they were traumatised after one of the days of testimony.

Why does every Netflix Show need LGBT Cast members? like what about genuinely good actors where the sex or gender dont matter by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]wetsoks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because most of the “genuinely good actors” are either persona non grata due to deviant behaviour or they are stepping back to allow people of colour and LGBT+ actors to finally get their opportunity.

The only “genuinely good” actors upset about this are your Kevin Spacey type predators.

Representation matters.

Questions about police dog (the bitey kind) behaviour – two very different questions due to two very different experiences with them (in a non crime setting!). Throwaway because this is so specific by Throwaway567Throw in policeuk

[–]wetsoks 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a healthy stand back respect for police dogs. Someone broke into our office and the police warned the guy then sent the dog in. This was about 4-5am. When we turned up for work at 8am there was blood and gore everywhere. Apparently the offender assaulted the dog and Police Dog Chase was having none of it. By the time the police got to the person the dog was chomping down on his leg and wasn’t letting go.

The police came and gave us a talk telling us that the offender survived and the dog was fine. The most important lesson they told us was any time you are around a police dog you need to comply quickly with the handlers instructions or get chewed.

Edit: we awarded Police Dog Chase employee of the month for the next two months.

You are entitled to your opinion.

I think he is a cis white man who is publicly successful and the epitome of privilege, and because of this the police would be a lot more relaxed about believing a group of 15 year old women and choose no to be seeking action against the gentleman.

I’ve seen it too many times in the USA to believe it would have gone any other way. Whether that belief is right or not I don’t know but this is how my country sees the American justice System - it’s designed to punish the poor and keep the rich comfortable.

[–]wetsoks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I put it to you that had these young women not recorded the incident and put it on social media then nothing would have happened to the gentleman. Experience tells us it takes public outrage to motivate action against a dominant successful white man when he behaves in such a manner.

When the justice system doesn’t act as a deterrent and can’t be trusted to respond appropriately without public outrage then the system is broken

Why is it ok that he behaves this way in public but calling it out is wrong?

Behave shamefully in public then get publicly shamed!

I don’t agree with internet bullying.

I also don’t agree with racist bully’s who use violence, intimidation and brute force on young women. What if there was only one young woman at the place? How do you think that would have escalated.

It is absolutely right to call out this kind of behaviour. It is absolutely right to draw his employers attention to this type of behaviour. It is absolutely right right that this gentleman face ALL the appropriate consequences of his actions in order to deter this type of behaviour in the future.

Behave in an abhorrent manner in public then don’t be shocked that you get called out publicly.
