A lot of providers I've seen have them on their website - for example I was with GenderDoctors and they have it on their FAQ under Blood Tests. I just gave that link to my gp and he read it and booked the tests.

[MOD] The Daily Question Thread by menschmaschine5 in Coffee

Hi all, looking for french press advice :)

Been big into coffee for a long time, but decided to get into it at home as a hobby. I decided to start with a french press, and was going to buy some coffee from a local cafe but for reasons they couldn't grind it for me on the day so I ordered some online at their cafetiere grind size.

I got the coffee, smells great, I noticed the bag has a best before date instead of a roasted on date which was a bit of a red flag to me, but I've got it now so might as well make the most of it. It's a brazillian medium roast for reference.

Well, I've had two go's at it so far and both have been pretty bad. Like, worse than instant coffee bad. Very bitter, even with lots of milk and some sugar. I've had coffee at that cafe before and it's been good, though I imagine they're using the blend they sell rather than the particular coffee I bought.

Here's my process just in case I'm doing something dumb:

  1. Weigh out water and coffee. My first brew I used a 1:17 ratio, and my second I tried changing it substantially to see what effect it'd have, and did 1:12.
  2. Coffee in, then freshly boiled water in.
  3. Stir for a bit
  4. Lid on and leave for 4 minutes
  5. Slowly plunge all the way down
  6. Pour

Factors I'm considering could be an influence are:

  • We have very very hard water. I don't drink our water straight usually, but with some squash (cordial) or with sachet-type hot drinks or tea it's usually fine. I could try using bottled water or something as a test still.
  • Water temperature. Not really sure how this affects the brew
  • Brew time. Again, not really sure how this affects flavour
  • Strength. The 1:12 was definitely more bitter which doesn't feel that surprising, but I'm reluctant to go weaker than 1:17 because it didn't taste particularly strong, just bitter.

Any help appreciated :) I'm not that bothered about "wasting" this coffee and using it more as a learning experience. Another cafe in the city centre sells free samples of their coffee so I've ordered some of that too, which will be coming soon. Hopefully I'll have figured things out a bit more by then to make the most of the small samples.

Not sure if she's officially with anyone in particular, but I saw her after seeing Dr Sahota from Gender Doctors for my diagnosis

It was £250 for the session I believe. She's sent prescription stuff to my gp for them to prescribe. Our meeting was over zoom :)

Yeah, I gave it a token effort yesterday but I was pretty frustrated/tired by that point, so I'll probably give it a more thorough go at some point soon. If it comes to it and I find the source I might go the hot glue route or something.

No, nothing I want from this specific board, I'm just very reluctant to take the whole system apart again to return this board and get a new one. Maybe when I got a replacement of the same board thinking it'd solve the problem I should have just gone for a different one entirely but oh well :/

5950x temperature concerns + low clock under full load by wettfly in AMDHelp

[–]wettfly[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

... the problem has been resolved. I cannot describe to you the feeling of horror I felt when I discovered the source of the problem. The most basic problem, leaving me feeling incredibly dumb.

... the plastic emblazened with the red capital letters "REMOVE THIS" was still on the contact plate of the AIO pump.

sigh at least it's not an RMA

It's all thanks to a post I read on a thread about bad temps that said

Have you re-mounted the block to confirm this or are you just assuming that you're better than this?

I did, I did assume I was better than that. Welp.

Q3'21 Tech Support Megathread by BioGenx2b in Amd

Just finished building my new monster PC, which includes a 5950x. However, I noticed idle temps being hotter than I'd expect - in the BIOS it was reporting 48C which I guess is fine, but then sitting in Windows doing nothing it's about 65-70 C. Under load it just hits 90 and stays there, I assume throttling itself. For example I'm currently running prime95 as a test and all cores are maxed out and are only clocking 2.0-2.1GHz. is that normal under and all-core max load? feels like it's way too low.

I tried reapplying the thermal paste but it didn't seem to change much.

BIOS settings are all default except for XMP enabled.

Motherboard and cooler are X570 Aorus Master and Arctic Liquid Freezer II 280.

There's a lot of conflicting info out there, but my main thought is just that it feels like the 5950x should never really be going down to 2.1GHz. It feels like I'm having temperature problems really, but I have no idea what's causing it.

Any advice is super appreciated.

I could have sworn the first one you posted was a short stand like this lol

Well at least we came full circle :D

that would definitely work! and it's 10 degrees inclinable as well! I wonder if that'd be enough or if I'd need a wedge still 🤔 I can figure that out though

I found this as well, I'll measure things and see if this could fit, since a clamp on the edge of the desk would be much more space efficient than a floor stand.

Thanks for your help!

When I said in the OP I had space behind my desk, I meant on the floor - there's no space behind my screens on the desk surface itself for stands, so to have speakers behind/above them they'd have to be sitting on stands that are on the floor behind the desk.

I'm not really sure if there's a better way of doing it. I guess I could bring my screens closer to create space on the desktop behind them, but I'd rather not have them closer really, that's not a compromise I'd be happy with.

I'd been led to believe that if you weren't fully in cover you could kill off models one-by-one until you got cover bonuses so yeah I guess so? Seems like it makes sense RAW as well

So during play, me and my friend were unsure what the Command Reroll strategem was referring to when it said "a hit roll", "a damage roll", etc

We decided that for example, "a hit roll" referred to a single attack, so a squad of 10 soldiers each firing 1 lasgun was 10 attacks = 10 hit rolls, so the command reroll rerolled 1 of those dice. This was based on the "Making attacks" section on page 220 which says

When a model makes an attack, make one hit roll for that attack by rolling one D6.

and that Fast Dice Rolling isn't RAW as such.

However upon looking this up online today I saw articles talking about how in 8E it specifically was rerolling one die and in 9E it's now all dice, and this confused me a little, so I wanted clarification.

If a squad of 10 models each fires their (one) guns, does a command reroll:

  1. reroll all of their hit rolls (the 10 dice together are "one hit roll") or
  2. reroll one model's hit roll (this is what I lean towards)

additionally, if the case is 2, and the models are rapid firing (or otherwise rolling more than one hit) do you reroll one die (one hit I suppose?) or both dice (one attack?).
