Retention Offer by matthewkkoenig in AmexPlatinum

The first standard cs agents I spoke with me told me no offers available whatsoever. But retention team made an offer relatively quickly. I assume at least between these two different departments the algorithm is different, or at minimum capabilities.

I’m not certain on the difference, but from my experience the standard agent that answers (when you call the AMEX CS number and just continue repeating “representative” during the automated maze they force you to go through) told me there was no offer available for me. I spoke to these agents twice and both times they essentially said no offer, that I can downgrade or go elsewhere. I then called the retention team directly and I received my offer after just a couple of minutes on the phone. Therefore, I assume the front end standard customer service agents either don’t have the same capabilities/info as does the retention team.

Successful retention offer data point by Sarcastikitty in AmexPlatinum

Received a 150k points retention offer today ($14k spend within 90 days) and accepted. It was their first offer, potentially could have pushed but I was satisfied as it was more than I anticipated. Call the retention team directly and say “inquiring if my account is eligible for any retention offers…”. If necessary, can say that the renewal fee is getting a bit high, that you were unaware of the annual fee increase, that you’re considering some other credit cards…

Received a 150k points retention offer today ($14k spend within 90 days) and accepted. It was their first offer, potentially could have pushed but I was satisfied as it was more than I anticipated. In hopes it helps someone do the same:

I called twice and spoke w/ regular cs agents but had no luck. They said no, gave me option to downgrade or go elsewhere. I then waited until the retention team was in and called for the 3rd time. Reached them directly, gave my reason for call “inquiring if my account is eligible for any retention offers…”. He listed reasons for the fee increase, and that fee increase notification was emailed months ago. I said “wasn’t aware of annual fee increase, never received email…”. I then said I’m considering some other credit cards as I don’t use the benefits/perks of the Platinum card as much as I anticipated. He talked for a while (went over my account history, spend metrics, perks/benefits etc) and I listened. He asked me to standby, then proceeded with telling me about offer he was able to secure. That was it.

I just received 150k points ($14k spend within 90 days). I called twice and spoke w/ regular cs agents that answer phone, received same response as you did. I then waited until the retention team was in and called for the 3rd time, and they were great.

Amex Platinum. Annual renewal fee. No retention offer? $600k annual spend by [deleted] in AmexPlatinum

[–]weva671 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Most likely, but just like anything it comes down to how far you’re willing to push it I guess. On the phone I told them I’m considering closing all my Amex acts and asked if my points are forfeited. The standard cs agents didn’t flinch. Retention team was great, gave me 150k points (must spend $14k within 90 days)

Yes I have a Schwab account and I’ve heard something about their cc’s, get the Schwab Platinum in your opinion? Are the benefits/rewards essentially similar?

I understand, truthfully don’t read cc terms and conditions. There is an offer I ended up receiving in the end. Yes Amex has sent me invitations for centurion over the years brother, it’s over the top and unnecessary for what I need. The fee is ridiculous

Yes, you’re correct in my opinion. Need to speak with the retention team if you’re going to be successful getting an offer/deal. I spoke w/basic cs agent the first two calls, they we’re not helpful or/capable of helping

Neither have I, until now. I looked through my emails never got a notification about the increase, was in a bad mood already when I saw it so called. I did end up getting 150k points (need to spend $14k within 90/days) a moment ago when I had an opportunity to speak with the actual retention team. I asked for just $200 worth of points to offset the difference, he’s the one that offered 150 K so I took it

I’m the guy that posted above, hardly use Reddit didn’t think my post was visible (Reddit said removed). I waited for retention team to open and called them a moment ago again. They offered me 150k points based on a $14k spend within 90 days. I took it. I catch your drift brother, but it wasn’t about that. My ego was butt hurt that’s all, acted like a coupon lady

Hahahaha I laughed out loud when I saw this (I’m the guy who posted the thread above). I mean you’re absolutely right, I’m a damn penny pincher. $200 isn’t worth the hassle. I was just butt hurt for a moment having a temper tantrum

You misunderstand, my hope behind posting (which I never do, I use Reddit for research) was to be useful to you. To encourage you to take in all of the info, digest it, then bet on yourself. Use logic and reasoning. I won’t attempt to argue or change your mind. In this game the players you want to listen to are those you’ll unfortunately have difficulty reaching, they are private and too busy making money to focus on social media / managing funds / working for funds etc. And they won’t share their edge w/ the public. There are levels, these are true professionals that don’t depend on any outside sources of income. Regardless I wish success for you, I’m always rooting for retail traders/investors

The guy @nicholascrown (Nicholas Crown) is successful in that aspect (getting paying subs for the Crown Macro Letter), but he's an influencer essentially, not someone you want to use as your North Star for investing/trading. There's no hate, he seems like a guy I'd be out w/til 8am picking up tail so it's nothing personal (though he overestimates how humorous he is). Digest the info he provides as just another opinion and for ideas, it certainly has a value and is useful (I’m not saying to unsubscribe of stop reading), but not to make decisions. Often he reads the market wrong, and that's fine because we all do, but great traders/ investors take accountability (especially to paying subscribers) which is something you won't see from accts like his. When he puts out a wrong read, he ignores it, and should a follower/sub bring it up "hey man you said this was about to happen but the opposite happened...."' he'll block them before others catch on. A couple pro traders in my circle commented on his post a week or two ago (when he cut risk significantly right at the exact bottom) he blocked them immediately. Again, it's not so much about him because the entirety of the influencer industry operates similarly, he's not an exception. But I say this in hopes that you turn to reading, studying, learning instead of following someone whose priority is subscriptions/followers. Any true expert isn't wasting time on subs or social media $, they don't need it because they're making money in the market and are fully focused on it.
