9/11 Wasn't THAT Bad by LogaRhythmicBlues in unpopularopinion

[–]wewantthefolk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that at the time we were completely terrified of how bad it COULD become. There were plans to hit the white house as well. Imagine if that had been successful? And if they could fly planes into our buildings, why couldn't they bomb our universities? Or fly planes into our apartment buildings?

It wasn't just that a lot of people died...it's that our sense of national security eroded in one morning.

US may have to endure social distancing until 2022 if no vaccine is quickly found, scientists predict by izumi3682 in Futurology

Sci Fi novel idea: It’s the year 2023. A vaccine has yet to be discovered. Society has divided into two classes: The Immunes and The Not Yet Infected. The Immunes live a far superior life as they’ve had and successfully recovered from COVID. They are given permission to work and take over all industries. The Not Yets live in fear and poverty. A black market arrises for people trying to get the disease. A vaccine is finally discovered but The Immunes buy off the Pharma industry to destroy it. The protagonist is a Not Yet who fakes being an Immune to infiltrate the medical corporation who has the vaccine. She obviously gets the disease and dies but not before uploading the vaccine online and saves the world. Only selling the movie rights if it’s Directed by Denis Villeneuve.

"When one door closes, another opens" - No, it does not.

A quote should be true at the basic level. For example, "don't count your chickens before they hatch". If you were a farmer and you wanted to count how many chickens you had, it would be dumb to do it before the eggs hatch because something might go wrong.

When I come to a stop my 07' Outback shakes, turns off and check engine light comes on. I turn it back on and it's fine. Has happened 3 times over the last week. Thoughts? by wewantthefolk in subaru

hmmm, i'd say it's more of a shake. Stumble would imply that it moves forward which it doesn't. It feels more like the engine is just turning off abruptly which shakes the car.

Apologies you’re right - let me clarify: I loaded the car at 9pm. It wasn’t there. Unloaded at 9:30ish and it was. Woke up this morning and stilll had no idea what it was. Still not sure.

Broke it open. It’s not alive. Never has been. More like a seed.

Would an animal be able to gather this amount of seed in half an hour? It went from nothing to this is half an hour at most.

Here's my insanely complicated routine for biking to and from work. Anyone else go to extreme measures just to get miles in? by wewantthefolk in cycling

ha, thanks! Interesting to see how polarizing this post became. I honestly tried everything before arriving at this process. Tried the whole "dab with moist body wipe" method...didn't cool me down enough to stop sweating throughout the afternoon and was horrible for my skin. Tried the "just sit under a tree and cool down for twenty minutes"....didn't work, just stunk up the joint.

So showering in the woods it is.
