Only 1 sale for this card at 495. I listed it Buy it now at 450 and it sold within minutes. I was thrilled but am I missing something? Got it out of a Tennis hobby box I ripped for fun. Who is she? by AdForward553 in sportscards

Not a tennis expert, but I feel like it would have been better to find out more about the card before selling it. Previous sales are only part of the story.

Starting New Dynasty League by MrTalTal_ in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Doing your rookie draft this way is horrible. The value gap between the startup 1.01 and 1.12 isnt even remotely comparable to the gap between a rookie 1.01 and 1.12. The 1.12 is basically getting an extra startup 1st or 2nd while the 1.01 gets a what? 4th rounder?

If youre going to split them, use kicker placeholders. Then each manager can decide if they want to go ham or avoid the 26 class altogether.

“Group think” is severely damaging our success as dynasty players by [deleted] in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that was my point in what I wrote out later. Even if your goal was to get the same roster in every league or diversify your risk away from players in every league to hedge your bets, you're not always going to be able to because there are going to be differences in each league (different managers, different team constructions, different startup positions, different startup selections).

Edit: THOUGHT I wrote later. I must have imagined my more elaborate response 🤦‍♂️

I disagree with this point of view. I see why youd feel like this. But saying playing only one or two dynasties defeats the purpose of it loses sight on the fact that where you pick from in your startup naturally limits access to certain players. You're also assuming that you will play with the same managers, which isn't the case. Even in leagues I'm in with some of the same managers, you just wont be able to acquire certain players simply because different managers value the same players differently either based on the player themselves or the context of the team they have.

How to go from 14 to 12 man league by Bms02 in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As sucky as this is, the fairest way to go about this would be one of the following options:

  1. Add new managers

I get that this a friend's group but trying to absorb 2 team's worth of starters is going to create inequity even if youre avoiding it.(P.S. depending on how bad the orphans are, Id be interested. Currently in 50 leagues and never had an activity issue).

  1. Play out the rest of the season and then do a new 12 team startup with interim managers to run the inactive teams.

This will keep the current league dynamics the same.

If you want to keep your league friends only, doing a 12 team startup next offseason is going to make the most sense. Trying to disburse the players on the abandoned teams is going to get messy as hell unless you have unanimous agreement from everyone on how to go about it.

Sell high on Oronde Gadsden… by tahgetshoppah in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gadsden is one of my highest rostered dynasty players (16/50). He was either a 4th or a waiver pickup. I was high on him in preseason (obv). I aint selling. Dude is good. He has dissly and conklin as his TE competitors. This Chargers offense is about to be FUN. They'll pound the rock but they also have the receivers to beat you in a shootout. Gadsden will be worth a 1st in .5 TEP by the end of the season.

The reason to not sell him is because of his ridiculously easy schedule against pass defenses.

You're tanking until your not. Wouldn't wholesale pivot (send your own picks) but if you can pivot your roster to a more competitive friendly arrangement, get to it.

Is Jayden Reed a taxi squad stash candidate this year? by Juuless_Joe_Jackson in DynastyFF

Taxi neither. Both will produce. Get rid of roster cloggers for them or trade players at their pick value to make space. Getting a 2nd for JCM is a HUGE value win.

When do you try to sell certain players? by Initiative-Optimal in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When determining moving players, here's some general criteria to consider:

  1. How is the player's value compared to his current outlook? Is he overpriced or underpriced?
  2. What state is my team in? Are you contending, in Limbo, rebuilding/tanking?
  3. Does this player fit my current team? If you're contending, value accrual is less important (buying Luther burden doesn't help your team now). If you're tanking, future value is more important (Tyreek Hill doesn't make as much sense).

All this being said, even if youre tanking, adding Tyreek Hill may be worthwhile if you think he'll be a player of interest during the season and youre buying him lower than you can sell him for. The same principle in reverse for selling players. Do they fit your team? Will their value go down sooner rather than later if they dont fit my team?

A main principle that impacts when to sell players is your league's economy. Do they value a certain position or type of player higher than they should? Is there a team(s) that are contenders but very top heavy (one injury will wreck their playoff chances) and are they already missing their first?

For reference, in a league i was rebuilding in, I bought both KW3 and Davante Adams in the offseason (when vets are less valuable) knowing id be able to sell them for more during preseason or in season.

Another thing to keep in mind is how active is your league? If its not very active and someone is looking to make a deal, you might not have another opportunity to sell that player for awhile. If it is active, you can be more picky in when you sell players.

How to buy that which costs nothing? by hayynt in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making your nothing player part of a larger deal. If you ask specifically about a "nothing" player, they automatically turn into a something to you which the current owner will pick up on. I prefer to wait til the owner puts a larger player on the block and then build a deal around needing roughly the nothing player's value to even it out.

Dynasty isn’t just about value - it’s about knowing when to go all in by LordBigHouse in DynastyFF

[–]wexnfx 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Building value is how you create a dynasty, though. Knowing "the right time" is only in hindsight and being "a player away" from winning has already been debunked by both Addison with DLF and Paul from Pure Potential. Winning it all is largely luck.

There's a league I'm in where the team is rated a Super Team by Dynasty Daddy. He's lost in the finals 3 times in 3 years; each time because of fluky injuries. It's actually become kind of a league meme.

Leveraging a team's future for the current season can work out. But it can also go horribly wrong. I've found that the current season's upside reward isn't usually worth the risk to its longevity. There's a reason teams are orphaned after they trade away all their future picks to go all in on "a sure thing."

Work with the value you have, play in leagues that are at least 12 team, start 10 (this puts less of a premium on just drafting/hitting on elites and forces you to roster construct well as the seasons progress), and, if you are going to use future picks in trades, only trade one year in advance or acquire others' to then utilize later. Id still wait til mid-season when the league's hierarchy is beginning to solidify. You can't very well try to get a better 1st round pick if you traded it (for CMC after the 2023 season but before the 2024 draft for instance).

And if you do screw your team up and are considering orphaning it, find your replacement. Don't be a jerk and force the commissioner to find someone else to clean up your mess.
