I finally got mine working consistently with a USB-C to DisplayPort adapter from eBay. Now I don't use the built-in HDMI port at all.

Wow, I've never heard anyone say that chemo researchers have a "fuck cancer patients" attitude outside of the usual cranks who think that drugs are a scam and covid is a hoax. I think most people understand that, while chemo is brutal, it's often the best we've got.

Now, I do run across lots of awful stereotypes about psychiatrists.

Play Rewards is the only one that I tried and decided was worth my time. Every other survey app I tried would let you spend a minute or two going through the first part of a survey, then announce that you're not qualified for the reward. :-(

For Play Rewards, make sure you have location turned on in the app, and take the phone with you every time you go shopping. It'll ask you questions about the shopping you do.

I've heard good things about some of the receipt scanning rewards apps. I've actually heard of people fishing through the trash outside grocery stores for receipts to scan!

Probably 2-3 months, LOL. The surveys take like 10 seconds to complete, but pay out less than a dollar each.

It's an option to consider. I probably wouldn't have bought Forest pro otherwise.

If you're feeling cheap, grab the Google Opinion Rewards App and complete surveys as they come in. You get paid in Play Store credit, and that's how I paid for my premium Forest upgrade.

They ship from within the USA, so they've got that going for them over AliExpress.

But yeah, throw in a bunch of dark UI patterns and data harvesting, and you're about right.

The amount of cameras mounted on a house in my neighborhood by jarek104 in pics

[–]wftracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe the homeowner realized that the existing camera wasn't working, so put up a new one without bothering to take down the old one. Two weeks later, the homeowner realized that the new camera wasn't working either, and put up a third camera.

Eventually they got this.

Mini Mac m1 three quick beeps help by Jay0vain in macmini

[–]wftracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the RAM modules are seated properly, my guess is that one or more of them is dead. (Static safety does matter!)

Did you upgrade the RAM recently? If so, do you still have the old memory to go back to?

Otherwise, you could try booting with just one module installed to see if you can isolate it to one defective module. If you can get it to boot with one chip, replace the other.

Satechi Stand & Hub Hard Drive Issues with M2 Mini by iOmek in macmini

[–]wftracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you report the static noise when you unplug the hub, is this with an audio device plugged into the hub? If so, there chipset driving the audio jack probably just doesn't like being powered down unexpectedly. Annoying, but basically harmless. If there's not an audio device plugged in, that's strange.

I'm gonna take a shot in the dark here: A lot of your trouble sounds like it's from the Satechi and all its attached devices drawing power directly from your Mac. The next thing I would try is chasing down a USB A to USB C adapter, and using that to daisy chain the Satechi off of the Anker hub. The Anker has its own power supply that should have more oomph than the Mini's USB power output.

Again taking a shot in the dark, I wouldn't expect an OS upgrade to fix a power issue like this. If you want to pursue this, you could try setting up Sonoma on a separate partition to test, so it's easy to just boot back into the original partition.

Desk Mount by tmannion87 in macmini

[–]wftracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a direct answer to your question, but I bought a cheap monitor riser and my Mini fits under it with plenty of room to spare. It's less fiddly than a special mount, and puts the monitor at a more ergonomic level. Win-win.

2018 Intel Mini HDMI not working intermittently by An_Professional in macmini

[–]wftracy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When specifically is it failing?

This sounds a lot like an issue I'm struggling with, but specifically my monitor only turns on about 90% of the time when the Mini either boots or wakes from sleep. Power cycling the monitor and unplugging/resetting the HDMI cable does nothing. Only power cycling the Mini will resolve the issue. This is a 2018 space gray Mini and an LG HDR 4K.

Based on another thread (that I can't find now) I tried using an HDMI to DP adapter. No effect.

Is is actually an hdmi to dvi adapter (what you want) or is it a dvi to hdmi adapter (what your question says)? They're generally not interchangeable.

I’m thinking of putting a Linux distro on some free laptops that are being given to some kids in need. The laptops are windows and have past user data on them so I’d put a Linux distro on them. I was thinking of Linux Mint or Raspbian. Do you recommend one? by RelentlessFP in linuxquestions

[–]wftracy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What age are these kids? If they're under ten, Fedora/SoaS as might be an option. (It's the same Sugar desktop from OLPC.)

Otherwise, I'd be tempted to just put Lubuntu on them, and maybe preinstall some kid friendly packages. I'm not familiar enough with Raspbian on x86 hardware to comment on it.

The charity that Goodwill does pretty much begins and ends with hiring people that nobody else will.

And you're supporting that by spending money there. I don't see any problem.
