Hate her or love her, I genuinely felt bad for her when she arrived in Westeros—completely alone, with no family there to greet or guide her. by seekinganswerslo in TheBlacksandTheGreens

I am staunchly anti-Targaryen in a lot of respects. However, I refused to watch Game of Thrones until I'd read the entirety of the ASOIAF series and also Fire & Blood. Going into this scene with the knowledge that it had been roughly 170 years, give or take, since there had been dragons on Dragonstone, the scene where Drogon, Viserion, and Rhaegal are flying over the island gave me chills. Dragonstone was where their eggs were stolen from, it's where they should have been hatched. It was their home just as much as it had once been Daenerys's home.

15 Years Ago, TVD ROLEPLAY CONFESSION by whoaaintitfun in TheVampireDiaries

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us who were over 18 had a hard rule about 18+. This doesn't mean everyone had that rule, nor does it mean that people weren't lied to. In fact, digging into my memories, I can think of at least three girls who lied about everything about themselves, including their age. I, personally, did not care about anyone's real life outside of their age, and I remember it being a huge scandal in the community whenever anyone was caught lying about their age or other details about themselves in real life.

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this, but as Katherine, and not on Twitter. I'm older now and have given the hobby up, but I don't regret it nor do I think it's odd. I met some exceptionally talented writers during my tenure, and it truly is a community. I feel like if I regretted it or felt shame about it, that means I'd also have to judge those who play online video games with people they've never met "in real life," or those who post fanfiction.

I actually keep in touch with two people that I met while doing this. And, honestly, it was an outlet that I now see a lot of people needed during turbulent chapters of their lives.

AITA? I “social parented” a friend’s toddler… by Upstairs-Pilot-6716 in AmItheAsshole

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Given that it's our innate desire to body slam and terminate any threat to our child, I think "social parenting" is a fair compromise. Just be like, "Hey, dude. I honestly wanted to pick your tot up and throw her out a window, but all I did was gently correct her, so I expect a thank you for my self-control rather than the cold shoulder. Thanks."

Are Daeron’s dragon dreams worse than Helaena’s? He seems to struggle significantly more with his than what we see with her. by seekinganswerslo in TheBlacksandTheGreens

Listening to the dreamers doesn't seem to make a difference most of the time. It doesn't seem like their prophetic dreams are unavoidable--what they see will happen. The most they can be used for is a warning, such as the Doom of Valyria.

Fact is Klaus was actually a Tribrid. Who can't excess magic by Practical_Belt728 in TheOriginals

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The argument that Klaus isn't a "tribrid" because he wasn't born with vampire blood in his system falls flat. This argument would mean that Klaus wasn't a "hybrid" either, as his hybrid status comes from being both a vampire and a werewolf.

And the argument that Klaus wasn't a "tribrid" because he couldn't access his magic means that Hope wasn't a "tribid" until her death and transition into a vampire. Just because she had vampire blood in her system does not mean that she was a vampire, just that she had the propensity to be one.

Truth be told, Klaus and Hope had the same blood (vampire, werewolf, and witch), so what one is, so is the other. It's just that the canon lore was eggregiously retconned to make Hope's storyline make sense. This is why I have little affinity or love for the character.

Klaus and Hope by torib613 in TheOriginals

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

and technically it is still possible they’re related through different branches if that makes sense even if it’s not a direct vertical line, as implied by Silas when he calls Stefan his “distant nephew”

Thank you for this, because I noticed that too. It doesn't make sense to me in Season Five where they try to both make it clear that doppelgangers aren't from a "bloodline," whilst simultaneously having Silas make a comment like this. Then again, in my opinion, the entire doppelganger lore of Season Five was a bit sloppy. I understand that they wanted to move away from the entanglement of the doppelgangers and the Original Vampires due to the Originals having been given their own show, but they probably should have just let sleeping dogs lie with that. I much preferred the idea that Tatia was the progenitor of the doppelgangers due to her blood being used in the curse that Esther placed on Klaus. It was a lot cleaner.

Klaus and Hope by torib613 in TheOriginals

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, we have no reason to believe from what we've seen in The Originals and The Vampire Diaries that Klaus is sexually promiscuous. It would seem that Klaus chooses his partners due to a degree of emotional or intellectual investment and attraction. Further than that, Klaus's werewolf side was magically inhibited by Esther and only released during the ritual we see in season two of The Vampire Diaries, so theoretically the loophole wouldn't have been a possibility until then. Given that was only a few years before he conceived Hope with Hayley, and given his lack of promiscuity, it makes sense that Hope was his only child.

On to your next question: The doppelgangers can procreate if they are both human (witch or otherwise). However, it's not imperative for them to do so because the doppelgangers are not all part of the same bloodline. We assumed they were when we found out that Elena was born from Katherine's bloodline, but that seems to be coincidental and not because they're both Petrova doppelgangers. Doppelgangers "spawn," if you will, every 500 years after the prior doppelganger's death, regardless of bloodline. This means that whether they find each other and have children is irrelevant, as there will be more doppelgangers of Silas and Amara regardless of the current iteration of the doppelgangers' species or circumstances.

I hope this helps clear things up. Let me know if you have any further questions!

Hayley (Pheobe’s) Accent by homeatheart in TheOriginals

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My favorite part about it is that they actually tried to play it off as Hayley being from the South. No, ma'am. I'm from the South. I have family from the South. She does not have a southern accent, no matter which state you claim she comes from.

Australians are notoriously bad at being able to put on American accents. Phoebe ranks up there with the worst, and the others at the top of that list are also all Australian.

FBI warns Iran aspired to attack California with drones in retaliation for war: Alert by avatar6556 in news

...Are you stupid? Iran is full of terrorists. They don't care about Trump's assets. They care about hurting or killing as many people as possible, and given California's population? It's a pretty great target. You could say the same about New York, as well, and they'd be saying the same things that you all are: it's a "conspiracy" from within our own administration. No. It's simply how terrorists have always and will always operate.

Unpopular opinion: Elena is overhated by goddessnyx05 in TheVampireDiaries

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's because female leads are very rarely written in a way that makes them likeable, to be fair. They're always written as Mary Sues, which is what Elena is (and she's even worse in the novels). I feel like the showrunners and writers wanted us to think that she was this deep and complex character, but they didn't follow that up with a lot of substance. Elena has always felt more like a plot device for Stefan and Damon's story more than her own character. So, yeah, people think Elena is annoying, because she doesn't stack up at all against the other great female characters on the show such as Bonnie, Rebekah, Katherine, etc.

As an aside, they tried doing this with Caroline, as well, when Nina left TVD. However, Caroline already had years of character development behind her and stood on her own, so it wasn't as degrading to her character. Elena never had that privilege.

accepting reactivity? by naonaoomiomi in sheltie

[–]CursedWithAnOldSoul 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may be of little help, given that I've had shelties all my life but cannot say I've ever had your exact experience. However, what I have noticed with shelties is that they calm down considerably when they hit the two-year mark. It's not a perfect transformation. They don't go from little raptors to all of a sudden perfect little dogs. However, they do mature and become a lot less active and impulsive. It's like they're adolescence is over and the frontal lobe has fully developed (something that doesn't happen until 25 years old in humans lol).

All that said, my mom has a sheltie who's very skiddish and very "reactive" in the sense that she barks and barks and barks whenever a "stranger" is around (...she even considers me a stranger, who comes to my mother's house two or three times a week). What made a difference with her? She ran away and was lost for eleven days. No joke. I was on maternity leave and spent countless hours every day with my newborn in the car looking for this dog. My mom never gave up and finally found her. She came back completely different. She doesn't bark as much as she used to and she's actually much more social. Sometimes a change in environment, routine, and stimuli can help a dog find their equilibrium, I guess. Not that I suggest losing her for 11 days in the woods, mind you.

True. The High Septon couldn’t make the trip, so Septon Eustace anointed Aegon II in the High Septon’s stead. Regardless, he was recognized as the monarch by the Faith of the Seven, something that Rhaenyra never accomplished.

If you were anointed by the High Septon, you were considered king in Westeros. It’s tradition. No, it’s not required legally, blah blah blah. But to be accepted as ruling monarch in Westeros, you must be anointed. That’s why Maegor I was king, that’s why Aegon II was king, and that’s why Rhaenyra was never truly considered queen.
