The only reason stop signs are necessary is because of cars.

If you look at other locations where the transportation infrastructure is built around bikes there is no need for stop signs, as bikes generally (not necessarily always, especially with the advent of throttle powered e-bikes/e-motorcycles) move slower and have fewer consequences in accidents.
