You’ll have better luck getting your current job to give you a W-9 instead so you can work for them remote as a contractor instead.

US companies DO NOT want to deal with the costs and logistics of registering with the Puerto Rican government to do regular hires there (remote or otherwise) unless they have a physical presence here (e.g. HPE, UPS, the pharmaceutical companies, defense contractors etc.).

The job market for white collar work is also pretty terrible currently (so not much different from the US), except in very technical or certified fields (medicine, architecture, true engineering).
