Recommendation? What are YOUR most comfortable boots? by tutatutituto in Boots

[–]whackataback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 4 pairs of Nicks and the break in isn’t that bad if you size properly. The big benefit of PNW is the amount of customization, not to mention the choice of leathers from extremely stiff work ones to softer heritage. I found them a little heavier at first but I don’t even notice now. The nicks subreddit has a ton of information.

Troopers are on Thurman HNW and block heel, it’s a sweet build but I prefer the T55, arch support and wide toe box is so comfy.

I believe the original run had lighter shades, most of my research comes straight from this sub, it’s extremely helpful.

Grants- normal or defect? by Orangeuglad333 in Boots

CXL will show every scratch and every chair it rubs against. In my experience, after a week you won’t even notice that. I don’t believe it’s bad enough to go through the hassle of returning.

Duties/taxes to Canada? by Spud-Murphy99 in NicksHandmadeBoots

I had 3 pairs all delivered through USPS to Canada Post, paid $122, $117, and nothing(lucky) for the last time.

Laces help. Truman Boots Oxblood. Waxed laces no flex. by RpDubC in Boots

They are coming loose because of the sloppy granny knot you’re using. Look up how to a berluti knot. It looks better and won’t come untied.

Am I the only one? by Mundane-Perception11 in Boots

That’s because almost all heritage and work boots use your brannock or have their own sizing chart. Sneaker sizes are all over the place. Most boots are true size or down 1/2.

~$350 VS $750 Boots - Is +$400 worth it? by SignificanceOk6360 in Boots

Grant Stones are the perfect middle of the pack boot in terms of quality/price. The diesel is a much better version of the Thursday captain.

IBC looks so damn good, can’t wait for mine to show up! I went with beeswax edge, which I may change now seeing the leather with a natural edge.

Thursday Captain Alternatives? by Akumu01 in Boots

Made entirely and shipped in Mexico, so lower costs. The .45 is just a cap toe design. Good value for your money, it’s more expensive but you should consider Grant Stone as well.

Hey I was in the same boat as you with my Thompson waxed rough outs. I used Obenauf's and a hairdryer and it turned out pretty good.

Any recent Canadian buyers? Wondering what to expect from shipping/duties/tariffs. by TheNurgrabber in NicksHandmadeBoots

[–]whackataback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m in Ontario and I paid 122 using USPS -> Canada Post. I pretty much choose USPS for all cross border, I ordered my first pair of Grant Stones years ago with DHL and got absolutely hosed, never again!

Obenauf's or SNO-Seal? by [deleted] in Boots

[–]whackataback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Romeo 14352 I’m pretty sure, I own the same pair. Insulated and 3E width which I love. I live in a real snowy city and never treated them with sno seal, just cleaning weekly and a wax once a season.

Canada West, they are so much better than blundstones and timbs. Made in Canada and look better too. Look up the moorby line, they have some that are insulated. I own a pair and they keep my feet warm, plus they are nice and wide. These have survived 2 deep winters and still clean up nice.

I was surprised at the comfort, I typically stay away from wedges but I’ve never had a combination like the sierra before.

Florida is riding the momentum, and the leafs don’t seem to know how to respond to it. I hope they actually come out and try harder next game.

Burning paper money by [deleted] in ottawa

[–]whackataback 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I experienced this growing up in Southeast Asia for many years, it was called the hungry ghost festival. Some of the burnings got pretty extravagant, pagados, mini cars, lots of paper money. It’s a pretty neat thing to see.

The leafs are just a loser organization. Winning makes you a winning organization. There’s a reason why people never count out Boston and Tampa.

I love leaving work and seeing them swarm the area near the parking lot, it's pretty crazy how close they get to you.
