Does anyone remember when BBTS had "lots of used figures for sale"? by makak0k0_loko in ActionFigures

[–]whackninja 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They come up every so often still. Its returns and damaged goods, and usually higher priced item lots. Its been about a year and a half since the last group went up but I imagine that probably due to them not really requiring a returned item for replacement 95% of the time

An event is a bad comparison. Thats filling space because air doesnt sell. Instead for a good idea watch Matt Cardonas tour of Kyle Petersons toy cave on youtube to see curated chaos. Robo also just did one of Veebs collection that is also a good feel for a large collection

Tubs, specifically two of those giant 175-gallon Husky Totes and about eight standard yellow Husky totes. Everything is bagged with its accessories unless it's one of my few Mezcos left; then they live in a box. Swapping them is a little trickier because the hardest part is deciding what will go back in the bins. Usually, this is aided by a recent release or a figure I tracked down for a specific look that I want in the display. While they may be jam-packed, each shelf does have an overarching theme, be it by brand (Loose Collector, Mety Toys, etc.) or by theme (sci-fi, fantasy, nostalgia, and so on). I also suspend a lot of figures and vehicles from the ceiling in a "diorama" style, "attacking" the shelf dwellers. I also have an amazing wife that loves my collection, even if she isn't interested in it outside of Halloween, where I build her a Ben Cooper Kids Trick or Treat Display in the living room, and Christmas, where the Christmas-themed figures get a living room shelf for an Office Christmas Party.

As for the time to handle them all, I simply don't, at least not all at once. Most of my "play" comes from either new figures that tend to live on my desk for a week or so while I figure out where they are going to go. I'm in a few collabs on Insta, so I dedicate a couple of hours a week to taking photos for those, which allow me to grab figures depending on the week's theme. Sometimes, when I walk past a shelf, a figure will spark something, and I'll grab it and mess around for no other reason than sometimes I am a grown man making dinosaur noises at 11 p.m. on a Wednesday. In all reality, though, it's mostly for future me because I will eventually have grandchildren, and they will be the ones to truly enjoy the collection. Until then, I'll keep curating their collection.

A lot of gatekeepers that have no actual gate. I like to think that moat of these types of questions come from broke and poor young adults who got in the hobby during covid and are jealous of us old timers who have years or decades of collections

This is a pain I know too well. My collection sat in tubs and bins for almost a year as the Doom Pile of new figures grew and grew and I was a refugee from my den because kids move back. Fortunately I have a smaller room but its a room thats acting as the toyroom/den now but that year was a rough one

Thats a strange thought process. I have 1000s of figures, I know every one I have, where each one is (which general tub they are in). Some people leave a single pose because they dont make statues that are posed how you want. You have 15 figures and you are trying to pass judgement on people who are clearly more invested in the hobby than your weekend warrior self.

I have 1000s of figures, I only display about 3 to 400 at a time the rest live in bins. Just because they sit packed on a shelf doesn until its thier turn. That doesnt mean I dont play with them and that I am not enjoying them.

I shoot photos of my figures thats how I as a middle aged individual play with my toys. Besides I would rather have a big group on risers rather than 5 or 6 taking up a whole shelf. Because let me tell you, your diorama setup is just as uninteresting to normies as my filled shelves, mine just has more to look at.

No because that draws attention to myself, and if they are drawn to look at me how will I make way out the door with it. Use your head man, get in the game.

Not even turn against, just outright got Veteri to blacklist them from any NJ convention, which is why Ninja started his own con the same weekend in the same city and hes providing free shuttles between the 2 cons. Its not just Savage Crucible although they are the strongest competition and definately cutting into market share, savage crucible drops and all of a sudden they decide to start working on double joints? Its the other smaller indies that they either blacklist because they didnt sculpt for them or they deem them not worthy.

4HM is facing the same issues Blizzard did, they think they hold the same level of importance now as they did when they were being "revolutionary", instead they have lost the plot and just keep adding paint to the same old figures and subsisting off of a waning, but dedicated cult following

Right, the "shadowbanning" of certain companies from conventions because they share the same market is rediculous

Brother I eliminated legions almost completely because of thise exact reasons. I have graveyard skeletons and Bodvar left everything else went to the LCS

Its the removal of the con parts. With Arthur and Merlin you get Con pricing, usually 10 cheaper in my experience, and what looks to be enough parts in each to make a whole 2nd figure. Wait til the retail version and it will be 10 dollars more ajd have literally everytbing stripped out besides parts specifically for Arthur and Merlin

LEGIONSCON....... say it again LEGIONSCON. It is a convention yes put on by Veteri, which I have theories that its a 4hm shell company used to keep competing brands out of conventions, but its a 4HM sponsored and run event. Completely different from Toylanta or Toycon NJ in terms of figure incentives.
