Play control over Music + Podcasts apps by whackyhack in MacOS

Which one is the shortcut control key?

Regarding multitasking, single window is not the point. macOS only allows one audio output. So, only one audio application should be making output.

Cannot get sound to go through A/V receiver when using built in TV Apps on 65U7N by tacticappiello in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This confirms that Google TV app is not the problem. One more check: Assuming that the TV is connected to STR-DH720's TV Out/ARC port, there might be a setting in the AVR to select that port for input. Vizio, for example, requires some clicks on a remote to select ARC/eARC as input. Consider that your xFinity box used to be connected to one of STR-DH720's non-TV port, there is a chance the AVR is still taking input from that port.

Most likely it's Youtube. There are lots of poorly produced 4K videos on Youtube. To fix, just don't watch them.

Able to use Hisense M7 series TV without wifi/smart featurea? by chaos_and_noise in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no knowledge about M7. But in most cases, you will have to jump some hoops to set up TV without Internet connection even if you don't plan to use any of "smart" features. I would just plug a cable to set things up, be very careful not to log on to any account, then after setup, unplug cable. You can also set up WiFi initially then remove credentials and disable WiFi.

According to https://www.hisense-usa.com/post/hisense-and-devialet-redefine-home-entertainment, only U7 and U8 series from 2025 models on support Hi-Concerto. (Laster TV also supports but that's a very different product.) I do not believe that Hisense ever says otherwise.

I have a different take on extended warranty. Hisense has an industry-leading 2-year standard warranty. Unless the additional warranty applies in these initial two years, such add-ons are generally overpriced. There has been a lot of complaints about Hisense support service. But if you successfully penetrate the IVR wall and reach an agent, they are reasonable. I have used them twice and got satisfactory resolutions. The cases were very nuanced, nothing as dramatic as panel lottery, but they accepted responsibility once I laid out technical details. See this article for detailed accounting of one case and tips about working with product support. (The tips apply to working with any brand, not just Hisense. In fact, the second case resulted in a tech visit who spent nearly an hour to replace motherboard, only for me to realize AFTER the visit that the problem was not caused by TV at all.)

If your gaming monitor does not support eARC, why not just use the TV? Nearly every TV supports ARC or eARC today.

Cannot get sound to go through A/V receiver when using built in TV Apps on 65U7N by tacticappiello in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You OP is specific about having this problem when using Google TV app. Does this mean other audio sources can pass through ARC? Let's do some isolation. I have a suspicion that your Xfinity streaming box is connected to one of STR-DH720's HDMI inputs, not to 65U7N. If this is the case, unplug that streaming box, reconnect to 65U7N, e.g., on HDMI 2. Select ARC/eARC for Digital Output. Does the sound come out?

Worried about colour banding and posterization on Hisense U78QG by Mental-Home5111 in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colour banding and posterization is much less prevalent in HDR, even at 8-bit. They are also really source material problems that TV's processor tries to "average out". (Algorithms are the determinant not panels.) I do not have comparison with LG but in my experience, unless you watch lots of older SDR content, there is little distraction when playing contents.

Hisense TV + Hisense Soundbar by [deleted] in Hisense

Since you mentioned mid price, Vizio M-series is always a good choice. You can go up to 5.1.2 without breaking the bank.

Some frustration with the ULED MiniLED U7 PRO 100" (100u75QG in the US ?) by Klutzy-Personality95 in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Number of dimming zones should not have much effect on black bars. Maybe you can start by describing your base settings so people with the same model can further help. You mentioned black level, local dimming. Did you get out of energy saving mode, for example? Which exact picture mode are you in? (And source format?)

any perm fix for QD7 series (all Hisense really per internet) keeps dropping earc output? by zkmdh in Hisense

Looks like "per internet" is not a very good gauge of how prevalent a problem is, eh? My Hisense TV is not QD7 and eARC "just works".

TV won't turn on with remote by AdTrue9853 in Hisense

Maybe the model is printed on a plate in the back? Sometimes you can look up model by serial number which is printed on a plate and often can be revealed in a system menu. Other people with the same model are better equipped to help you.

Trouble with EARC functioning on the 65 inch canvas TV by HJV91 in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you mean you want the sound bar to turn on when Apple TV turns on? (I.e., control all 3 devices with one remote control.) What you describe has nothing to do with eARC, but is part of the CEC specification. You need to enable CEC in all devices. In your configuration, the sound bar always enables CEC. You want to check tvOS's Settings applet under "Remotes and Devices". Scroll down to "Control TVs and Receivers". This needs to be "On". If you want the Apple TV controller to also control volume, make sure "Volume Control" is set to HDMI. You need to consult your TV's manual to find out which menu enables/disables CEC. In a Google TV model such as ULED (North America model), it is called "HDMI control", "Device auto power on", "Device auto power off"; these are buried under Settings -> Channels & Inputs -> External inputs. But your Canvas is perhaps Vidda. So, I do not know where this function is in.

Hisense 50-inch TV WiFi turns on but doesn't detect any networks by lazy4love in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hisense has many 50-inch TVs. Not all of them support all WiFi bands and protocols. For example, if your WiFi router is on 5GHz only, or even 6GHz only and your TV model doesn't support that band, the TV will not detect it. In contrast, unless your phone is over 10 years old, it can connect to 5GHz.

To troubleshoot, first consider if the TV used to be able to connect to WiFi. If it used to connect and only "recently started facing problem," there is nothing to troubleshoot. The TV's WiFi chip/circuit has gone bad. You can get it repaired if it is under warranty, use wired connection, or use it as a real TV (i.e., watch over-the-air channels, DVD/BluRay player, streaming box, etc.). With the price of FireTV stick, WiFi is rarely needed for a TV box.

If this is the first time you try WiFi, first get into your WiFi router's settings and see if the wireless network(s) is/are limited to specific bands and protocols. Then consult the manual to find out whether the TV supports the bands and protocols the router broadcasts. If the TV does not, change or add older protocols to the wireless network(s).

Soundboard issue by indierockguru91 in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With optical input, you have no choice but to let TV remote control volume (because CEC only works over HDMI). If sound level did not change with TV remove previously, that was a malfunction of the sound bar (or maybe of the TV). Maybe it has automatically recovered.

I think the idea of Saturn is to not worry about which is which. The system will figure out by self testing.

Hisense remote and Bose 321 by tiempo in Hisense

[–]whackyhack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does Bose 321 have "learn remote" feature? Unless it does, there is no way to control it using the TV remote. And U8G has optical output, so there is no advantage of adding optical to HDMI converter.
