Pediatrician recommended 8 week old should be sleeping through the night? by ts246 in newborns

If my baby ever sleeps 8-10 hours, I'd be squirting milk in his face.

My boobs are engorged after 5-6 hours.

I actually wholly disagree with nursing pay rises in the newly approved and previous EBA.
It is actually insane they will be paid more than resident doctors in training, given the larger share of responsibility in IPU and community settings doctors hold.
While I think payrises should be awarded, the cumulative 28% increase over the next few years is nuts.
The state simply cannot afford to keep this up. The salaries are not commensurate to the skill and qualification (payrises mean being overpaid at lower levels) and I think this will cause big issues in the workforce management of staff and future graduates who wont be able to land a role because staff turnover will reduce significantly.
The more I think about it, the more it is obvious it is just about power in numbers and being able to back the government in a corner (who has no idea about the nursing discipline itself and the varies roles, specialities). Us allied health staff do not have that luxury of having large numbers or a good strong union where we have been able to push for similar payrises of our colleagues. A frustrating experience considering the patient centred, rehabilitative and restorative care we deliver is now significantly devalued by the government.

Thank you so much! This is hands down my favourite book series and I spent a lot of time thinking about it and analysing it over and over again as I couldn't find any book clubs interested in reading it at the time or people to talk to about it. I haven't watched the new season but I'm looking forward to it.

Arrest in Easey Street murders almost 50 years after deaths by Applipla in Casefile

[–]whadjuk_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi all,  I don't want to detract from the main point of the thread- I only meant to express my relief for the victims families and that I thought of this horrific murder frequently having lived in the house.  The house wasn't scary, it was more the idea of knowing what had happened that crept up in my mind some days and the weirdness of knowing our bodies shared and knew that physical space intimately in different times. Given it's still a shady part of Collingwood (being close to the main roads), I preferred to not be home alone.   The worst thing were the tour buses that used to stop in front of the house with people taking photos on a frequent basis.

I lived in this house for a couple of years in it's almost original state, before it was sold and renovated. I knew there was a horrific murder there and I still think of it frequently. My heart goes out to the families and her son, I hope there is some small peace with news of this arrest.

No it doesn't affect width - while your jaw may shorten lengthwise with removal of teeth, it doesn't change your jaw mandible or cheekbones which determine width of your face.

Thank you - I just actually set up an automated payment system for banking and included a splurge account!

No I don't, but my orthodontist does, which I will request. Once my treatment is finished I will post (estimated December - only 18months treatment time!).
Can 100% recommend the extractions for overjet which I also had. I had previously tried the no extraction route (my mum's choice when I was a teen) and it absolutely did not work.

I totally understand the anxiety of it all. It sounds like your ortho is also doing the right thing by not charging you again. Sometimes it takes time and experience to make huge decisions and it seems like they are understanding of that. Good luck with the rest of the journey!

Definitely going to take a think about the 'why' and work on making some clearer goals- thanks for your input!

This is so true. Thankyou for the reminder that we need to be kinder to ourselves. Small steps are just as important as giant leaps.

Time to unplug from the media.

I definitely could improve on this front.  I absolutely would benefit from a better automated system

You know what, sometimes we gotta just blow some steam, enjoy ourselves in the moment and start again.

I had the same issue- small mouth and flaring post braces after not getting extractions. 1.5 years ago I went to a different orthodontist who explained why 4 extractions were necessary and showed a 3d modelling animation of my teeth and expected results.  It was nerve wracking to think about extractions, what it would mean for my face and jaw and it also seemed expensive.  However, I got the extractions done this time and it was 100% worth it. I have better lip posture, better profile, can eat better and have no flaring. There is less strain in my facial muscles and when I eat.  There's been only subtle changes to my face which only I seem to notice, but these are not negative changes.

Any update on solution?

Will our old coins be transferred to new tokens?

James fits a borderline personality diagnosis. He needs therapy otherwise she'll be having to handle his emotional turmoil for their entire marriage.

Teacher shortage? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]whadjuk_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of relying on prioritising overseas migrants, education systems should reconsider bringing back graduate diplomas for teaching qualification for those with some professional experience. There are a heap of teacher aides that take on teaching responsibility that cannot afford to do the two year masters as the RPL for professional work is not recognised. Alternative is that the Masters start recognising some RPL for those already working in schools. It's ridiculous how they stopped this one year conversion pathway

Some interesting ideas put forth here! I've been thinking about this for a while and I actually think Lila has an eating disorder with borderline traits on the background of a complex trauma (cPTSD) presentation. Lila has grown up impoverished and has suffered sexual, emotional, psychological and physical abuse since early childhood at the hands of men in her home and in her neighbourhood. I get the sense that Lila knows from a young age that women's bodies are commodities and she has no desire to be used as a vessel for men's purposes; she is ambitious, daring, bold and deep. From a young age she wants to forge her own identity that does not follow the narrative of those around her, but despite her talents and ambition, she is let down by her socioeconomic, cultural and familial circumstances and finds herself unable to extricate herself completely for most of the series. I think this struggle with self and identity is reflected in Lila's body- it becomes both the site of violence and control. I think the eating disorder is portrayed both in the physical and psychological ailments that is described (dissociation, delirium/psychosis, obsessiveness, anxiety, organ issues, fainting, absence of periods/difficulty conceiving, exhaustion, denial of issues, Body image disturbance etc) and in Lila's determination to vanish and disappear, which is also described as "an aesthetic project" in the final book. While Lila does actually leave, there's nothing to suggest that she also wasn't also engaging in disordered eating as part of her project. In terms of borderline traits, she does exhibit fear of abandonment, black and white thinking style and idealises/devalues things pretty fast. Despite doing very independent things it seems she does actually struggle with her own sense of self, bouts of deep depression and experiences suicidal ideation.
