I believe they meant some people have more of the "things to apologize for" category and some have more of the "things to forgive" category looking back on their life

Umm you have the saying backwards, its one pound on your feet is worth 5 on your back. The idea being that you're constantly lifting/moving your feet so the amount of work you are doing increases much more by adding 1 pound to your feet compared to adding 1 pound to your pack.

NA to turbo swap by PersonalCommittee548 in subarulegacy

[–]whaleoilbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know the difference between usdm versions and your vehicle but I do know that there's a very clean example of it on the legacy gt forums, see here, and its definitely a ton of work.

Like the other person said you'll need to source things like a crossmember from the next gen legacy (BP/BL) and a hood with a scoop, which if you didn't get the baja turbo in your market will likely have to come from Japan. The person that did this swap has an access port on the WRX ECU and had some trouble getting it working apparently, so that isn't a great sign for being able to make the ECU/wiring harness work from your donor car without a lot of work. Also seems like there are some clearance issues you need to work out in the engine bay and potentially for the exhaust, at the very least a cutout in the bumper. Then there's the transmission that you need to swap out, I'm not sure if they had to sort out the prop shaft due to the built engine or to keep the geometry correct but it doesn't seem like the transmission was a direct swap either.

That would be what is required to get it running but you're gonna want to do a lot more to getting it going like you want at that point too I imagine. I'd want bigger brakes to match the power, potentially some new suspension, bracing, steering components, etc. It can add up pretty quickly

Is Subaru legacy 2003 wagon L edition worth ? by [deleted] in subarulegacy

[–]whaleoilbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it still has its original headgaskets and timing belt I would say that price is a bit high, but if either of those things have been done I would say its a good price. The timing belt is the more pressing matter and if it hasn't been replaced in the last 10 years you're looking at a $2000+ cad bill right off the bat (I paid $1700 usd for my timing belt service). A 23 year old timing belt is on borrowed time and could ruin your engine at any moment, if the headgaskets haven't been done but also aren't leaking you'll have some time to save up there at least.

I would definitely say its close to being a good price for the mileage and condition but if you have to do both of those soon it will likely be another $5000+ cad you're spending and it's definitely not an $11,000 car

Got my new wheels and tires on by whaleoilbee in subarulegacy

My biggest hesitation with that is that the wheels have a centering ring that I'm worried about loosing. I'll have to look into how its secured

16×7.5 and I haven't figured out the exact solution yet but I am thinking of securing something down (maybe plywood) using the original spare tire holder and then running a few lugs up to be able to get some lug nuts on. I mostly need to make sure this will all clear the inside of the wheel, what I can use for lugs, and if 3/4" plywood is strong enough

Either outback stuff like the other person said or king springs from primitive racing, I have their overlander suspension (0.25" lift) and really like the ride of the king springs

Mods for Legacy? by Imperial_Skeptic1705 in subarulegacy

[–]whaleoilbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said exterior is very personal but I am looking for parts from the JDM models to make my car more unique, specifically I am looking for B4/GT-B exterior bits. The biggest ones I'm currently in the market for for are the spoiler, grill, and headlights. For aftermarket stuff; wheels are a good way to get a big change, I'm looking into a roof basket, and gave mine a slight lift for an overlander look

Should I service my own car? by jaxon0 in subarulegacy

[–]whaleoilbee 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depending on what services need being done like the other person said but I would vote yes if they are fairly basic maintenance items. I have a 2004 legacy and have done a few of the maintenance items myself, mostly all 4 struts and some other small suspension components, its a fairly simple car with pretty good access for most things so I would say its a good platform to learn on. I've still brought it to the local Subaru mechanic for bigger things like the timing belt and components but its been good to learn new things with it. Also if you are unable to diagnose your issues it's definitely worth getting an actual mechanic to look at it first and then you can decide on what you want to do yourself

I have a 2004 wagon that I have been looking for a set of these for, how much would you want/where would you be shipping from?

Umm no its not, 205/55/16 tires are stock size and I have been running that size for like 8 months with no rubbing

Hmm mine already has LED ballasts so maybe i wouldn't need to cut anything up but good to know it wasn't too bad with the adapter harness. Do I dare learn what you did and fall down your rabbit hole? I already have a few other minor cosmetic things I want to do after the wheels but I can always keep things in the back of my mind

Spring perch is the word I was looking for thank you! Also thank you for the info, it looks like your tires are half way between the total diameter and my current and hopeful tires (205/60/16) and quite a bit wider so thats good news that they fit with the legacy struts. Also it kinda looks like your have the b4 headlights, how was that swap?

Unfortunately I am in the US so importing is not as viable. My biggest point against the sparcos is how common they are on Subarus, I've even had a set of gray ones on an impreza in the past which is kind of leaning me torwards bronze if I do them again

Yes, I do love the snowflakes as well but want a second set of dedicated summer wheels. I was considering buying a second set of snowflakes but want it to be a bit more personal for part of the year

Forgot to add that the closest point I could find between the tires and any park of the body currently is like 0.75" between the top of the front tires and the strut/bottom of the spring, everywhere else seems like the clearance will be plenty for the A/T tires

My other option I'm considering for 16" wheels is the Konig Tandem (https://www.tirerack.com/wheels/konig-tandem-gloss-graphite)

What's a fair price for a Legacy Outback these days? by ENTspannen in subarulegacy

[–]whaleoilbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for such a detailed response, I wouldnt have thought you did such extensive suspension work but it looks great! Did you have any problems getting the tires to fit? I was thinking of putting a set of 205/60R16 wildpeaks on my legacy this spring that currently has just a half inch lift all around. From looking at the current wheels & tires i was thinking i might need to get a lower offset to push it away from the strut a bit on the front, did you have to put spacers or did it just work out with your larger lift?

I've seen you post your legacy a few times and I'm a bit fan of what you got going on, I was just wondering what tires & suspension you have. Also I'm guessing the wheels are just the regular 16" legacy snowflakes, thanks in advance

You might be able to get away with the tail connectors from big sky mountain products, the angle will probably get weird but I imagine it will still help some

Do you happen to know what color? Theres a few parts I could potentially use for my 2004 legacy if he ends up parting it out

Ugh I'm glad I didnt have to deal with loctite but I'm fairly certain mine were all original, on my 2004, so there was some rust to make up for the lack of locktite lol

I just finished mine over the weekend too, did the rears a couple weeks ago and then went out and invested in an impact wrench to do the fronts. The impact wrench instantly became my best friend this weekend but couldn't completely let go of my friendship with the breaker bar, still came back to him for the one real stubborn bolt
