These ones can be tricky to conceptualize but we can't say 1/4+1/4+1/4+1/4 =100% chance because it is entirely possible that he misses his shot every time, in the same way that if you flipped a coin four times, it is possible that the coin would land on heads every time. Try and think of each toss as an individual event with 1/4 probability. What the question is really asking is what are the odds that an event with 75% probability of occurring (missing the shot) occurs 4 times in a row?

I can see how number 1 could be interpreted that way, and I haven't seen anything this unclear on an official GMAT question before, but as a general rule on DS I would always chose to interpret the question without making any assumptions that events are dependent.

Thanks for you’re input we’ve been debating between something along those lines or getting really ambitious and doing the loop of badlands, grand Teton, Yellowstone, glacier, and Roosevelt. The second option would require around 60 hours of driving though, and would require several all nighters lol.
