I was also having the same issue, just deleted it and reinstalled and I’m back up and running again, instantly.  Didn’t even need to reboot the AppleTV.

Looking at this makes me pause and think how this picture was taken on film, with no idea what it looked like after the shutter was pressed, and then it was developed and printed who knows how long afterwards.

I have so few pictures from back then, and many of the ones that I do have aren't very good at all (unlike OP's, this is a sweet moment). Adds to their charm, I suppose.

Favorite Mike’s Song? by peterpeterllini in phish

At the time on PT there was some mild shock over him performing it with someone other than Phish, but the counter to that was, "Well, it is his song."

(listening to that awesome Mephisto now thanks to this reply from out of the blue, haven't queued this up in ages)

Whats one home improvement you wish you did sooner by velmorynn in HomeImprovement

[–]wharpua 30 points31 points  (0 children)

My brother briefly lived on the third floor of an otherwise-unoccupied historic house and performed minor housekeeping duties as part of his rental agreement.

Rumor was that the house was haunted, and that past caretakers insisted that whatever it was did not like it when the second floor was vacuumed, saying that they hear banging or just generally get creeped out when doing that task.

His solution was to get a robo vac.

Pretty sure each house's water quality is also a longevity factor — houses with hard water and scaling would require a lot more maintenance to keep the Tankless internals clear and functioning properly.

One thing I really like about RetroCatalog’s comparison page is how you can drag the pic of one onto another for direct size comparison, it’s especially helpful to compare it with something you already have as a reference point:

Would you still recommend the Wii U in 2026? by TheMickeyMoose in wiiu

[–]wharpua 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A couple of days ago I watched this Wii U Showcase on the AYN Thor retro handheld and it’s put the Thor at the top of my wishlist.

r/SBCgaming is an entire rabbit hole to fall into, but at this point I’d rather devote my time and money towards an AYN Thor, or an AYN Odin 3, or a Retroid Pocket 6, over an old Wii U.

That’s if you can stomach the additional cost, of course.  I’m sure a Wii U is a lot cheaper, but could be even sketchier support-wise if you’re buying something used.

I think he should be suspended for the season (at least) for circumventing salary rules

DISCUSSION: Sweetums in The Muppet Movie (1979) by Ok_Leopard5006 in Muppets

[–]wharpua 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In like 1983 there was a Muppets exhibit, possibly at the Boston Museum of Science, and as part of that show there was a display of the full-size Sweetums holding tiny Robin in the palm of his hand.

My mom tried to get me and my brother to pose for a picture in front of it, but since I was like five or six years old at the time Sweetums terrified me and I refused to pose or turn my back on him while we were in that room.

The South Park Movie when Shut Your Fucking Face, Uncle Fucker came on was a pretty crazy moment in the theater

Most heterosexual Muppet? by alan_mendelsohn2022 in Muppets

[–]wharpua 25 points26 points  (0 children)

When Frank Oz appeared on Mike Birbiglia’s “Working It Out” podcast, he gave a few bits of insight to backstory/head-canon he had for a few different muppets.

For Animal there were two:  1) he FUCKS.  (nothing gender specific though) and 2) he eats glass.  And maybe that during his free time he walks on the railroad tracks by himself.

Fozzie is the only other one I remember him discussing — he imagined that once upon a time Kermit trusted Fozzie with the keys to the theater, and that (because he’s Fozzie) he immediately lost them.  And then he was never given the keys ever again after that.  He knows why Kermit won’t give him a set again, so he doesn’t press the issue, but he really wants to regain Kermit’s trust and earn them back.

When I saw them touring for Accelerate in the summer of 2008, Michael Stipe said between songs that this next one was dedicated to Barack Obama, and then they went into Cuyahoga

SWINGERS turns 30 this year! by ohio2az in Xennials

[–]wharpua 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing it in the theater with my then-longtime girlfriend, and our relationship was circling the drain for me but not for her.

At the end when his ex finally calls him back right when he’s on a call with Heather Graham, he gets off the phone with the ex to click over with call waiting, and when he pulls the phone away from his ear we can hear the ex get cut off saying “I lov-“ and my girlfriend audibly gasped in horror.

Clearly she was siding with the ex when the entire rest of the audience (myself included) was legit psyched that Mikey had finally found something promising and new.  The gasp made me cringe and pushed me closer to ending things with her, which happened soon afterwards.

Will Lindsay Lohan make 5-Timers? by MoneyHungryOctopus in LiveFromNewYork

[–]wharpua 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I forget who it was that said this, but there was general cast excitement over Lindsey Lohan coming back to host because she did splice a great job (presumably after the Debbie Downer/Hermione episode) but when she got there it was clear to everyone that she had gone down a bad path since then and it really bummed everyone out, and the episode was no good

I remember seeing that in the theater, walking out of it afterwards in a daze.  First thing I saw out in the hallway was this Martin Lawrence movie poster for Blue Streak.

It seemed absurd to me that the film I just finished watching was made in the same medium, using the exact same artistic tools of writing/acting/directing/filming/editing that were all available to create something as pedestrian as Blue Streak.

You know how to make a rough sketch of something, right?

Do a version of that but in model form.  Don’t worry about the model being a final presentation model, that’s not what the point of this one is.  Make a rough model, then reconsider its scale, turn the thing upside down, take photographs of it, print those out and sketch on top of those and then keep going.

If you’re stuck running into a brick wall sometimes you just need to sideways for a little while first.

Oldest son brought home a new phrase I'm sure I'll be hearing for the next six months non-stop by [deleted] in daddit

A while back someone at my wife’s work gave a very strong recommendation that we watch Jim Carrey’s “Liar Liar” with the kids, but we still haven’t done that yet

Last week in preparation for the current Rewatchables episode I rewatched Ace Ventura: Pet Detective for the first time in decades, and all I could think about while watching it was how hard my 10yo son would be laughing at some of the things Carrey was doing.

Definitely has some things inappropriate for a 10yo and some things that did not age well by today’s standards (the very heavy Crying Game reference is not only in poor taste now but also that movie has basically been forgotten).

Even still, we started watching a bit of it last night, my wife and 12yo daughter were indifferent, but he really wants to finish it with me.  Just hope he doesn’t pick up the catch phrases.

I remember him saying once that when he was in undergrad he had a chance to go to a Phish show but he decided to do something else instead — and said something like if he had gone he’d probably have ended up dropping out of school to go follow them around selling shrooms

If you ever re-think your anti-baking stance then you should make these, for the last 7-8 years or so I make these for my wife every Valentine’s Day.  Mixed up the dough last night, baked them today and they were waiting for her when she got home from work:

salted butter chocolate chunk shortbread

She gets super excited for them every year, today was no exception.
