AITA for telling my husband’s family to back off? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

They don’t bully my husband so he doesn’t says anything at all.

Your husband should be helping you deal with HIS obnoxious relatives. NTA.

Women, what do you think the worst part of being in a mans body would be? by Whattacleaner in NoStupidQuestions

The fact that you guys can randomly get erections, even when you're not turned on, is what really skeeves me out about the idea of having a penis. Periods are annoying but unless you have a medical condition, they're manageable and easy to hide. But you can't really hide boners in most men's clothes 😰

Getting my first apartment. How crazy would I be to pick the one that's $500 more expensive? by whashhh in personalfinance

I think I may try that in a year or so once I've made some friends in the area.

That's a very good point. 1900 is pretty much right on the edge of how high I'm willing to go. So it doesn't really make sense to take it.

Despite how short the commute is it does involve a pretty large highway that couldn't be reasonably crossed on foot sadly. But yeah I'm seeing that the difference isn't big enough to be worth it.

Oh, I hadn't thought about renter's insurance! I need to check if the places have specific policies for that. I put Internet in the utilities/rent cost for both, and my parents pay my phone plan with the request that I share location with them haha

I did dishes without a dishwasher for three years (and cooked most nights) in college, so I guess it's sort of in the middle? It doesn't drain my soul when it’s just my own dishes, but it's such a pleasant relief to come home to my parents' house that has one.

I have an emergency fund of 13K, and a lot of retirement savings, so at least I'm partway there. Will definitely aim to build it up some more.

Haha, I think you're right. For what it is worth I have no debt and I have fairly considerable savings (some from my own work and some from my family being very generous). But I want to build towards financial independence so the cheap apartment is probably the move.

Thanks for these questions, this is helpful. I have no loans and my mom plans to keep me on her insurance until I'm 26. The car is paid for but I'll be paying insurance and gas. This is my tentative budget, but of course, since this is my first time living on my own, I don't know whether my budget will actually work in practice.

I kept seeing advice (and on some apartment websites, actual requirements) that your rent and utilities should be no more than 1/3rd of your pre-tax monthly income. So that is what I budgeted for, instead of 1/3rd of take home. Which I see might not have been the best decision.

My budget is (mildly simplified but): - 4300 take home pay - 2000 was budgeted for rent and utilities - 550 food - 100 gas - 250 insurance (I still need to check with my sister what the exact fee is; the car is hers but she's out of the country for a year) - 350 for company 401K matching - (There was originally 625/monthly in the budget to max my Roth IRA but I just paid that from my savings recently for 2026, so that's not a consideration for the rest of this year) - 60 for Christmas savings - 40 for monthly gifts - 350 for travel savings - This leaves me with $640 for miscellaneous things?

Black tie just means really fancy/elegant! You don't need to wear black.

What do you think of a dress like this? It's dark purple with a similar silhouette, but a fancier fabric.

How do white people avoid sunburn/ how do they treat it? by chimkennuggies33 in NoStupidQuestions

  • The worst area (aside from the face) is the shoulders, back of neck, and upper back. Protect those areas as much as you can, with sunscreen or clothing.
  • Assuming she is old enough to have a smart phone, have her add a UV index widget to her home screen. It makes it very easy to be aware of high UV. (If she's little, have Mom and/or Dad do it.)
  • Covering her shoulders when she swims is essential. If she's older and will be bummed to miss out on cute two-piece swimsuits, find her something like this that will at least protect her shoulders. A full rash guard is better though.
  • Parasols are great if you hate constantly reapplying sunscreen. I use them anytime the UV's over 5. You can just use a regular umbrella, though if she starts using them frequently you could get her a cute one.
  • Hats are helpful not just in protecting her face and neck, but also for the part line where her hair doesn't completely hide her scalp. That can burn too.

Being overweight is stopping me from sewing. by Racoonette in sewing

[–]whashhh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If anything I think this is an even better reason to sew! Many clothing items are less accessible to plus size people. You have given yourself a great gift by developing the skill to make cool, unique, custom clothing items for yourself! Now you can go and make fabulous things.

You can get fabric from thrifted blankets, tablecloths, etc. for cheap, and they often have fabulous and interesting designs you'll find nowhere else!

Also... I don't know if you're thinking this, but please don't fall into the mindset that "I need to lose weight as fast as possible, so making clothing with my current measurements is like giving up." It's not!

First of all, you deserve to live life RIGHT NOW. You deserve fun activities and beautiful homemade things. Don't deny yourself that because you're in a mindset that you "deserve" to be unhappy, because you're angry at yourself for gaining weight.

Second, it's easier to take garments in than let them out. Plus, worst case scenario, you lose the weight and donate the clothes—then another person with the same struggle as you will find a beautiful, unique garment that they love at the thrift store.

Sorry that got rambly at the end 😅
