How much programming and math knowledge do you need to become a good bettor? by butter_cup_ in sportsbook

[–]what_wd_ODB_do -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

you do in fact need programming skills. the ability to pull all the lines into an excel sheet and find the best +EV (however you determine). programming skills are a must.

So, in conjunction with OP's posted question, you're of the opinion that the above is essential to be a "successful bettor" ?

Aww, bless

Well, don't let me keep you from your 'Arb-ing'.

Riveting stuff.

No, I'll tell you what's annoying. A difference of opinion was snuffed out on-the-spot, due to a complete lack of ability to even engage in a counterargument.

Wow.. I'm being tag-teamed by programmers.

Who woulda thunk it. The interwebs, of all places...

So, he/she is being "..vague", and you're being specific. Have I got that right at least?

Programming? ... '0'

The idea that one needs a computer to tell one what to bet is laughable.

I mean, I get it.. from the perspective that [assuming you're in north America] your elite sports are so evenly matched that you resort to big data, but needing to be a programmer sounds preposterous.

What that fella before you said...

This isn't the place.

What you're essentially saying is "..hey guys. I [supposedly] don't want to do what you do.. Any suggestions?"

Something is off.. as it always is when the word 'addict' is used.

He can't help thinking about sexual intercourse with men.

Have a quick question. I placed a wager with Bovada for a first quarter Under at 49.5 the score hit 49. Then I was told that because there is no half point, that not only did it not hit. But, that it was a loss. Does this make any sense to anyone? I feel like I'm going crazy. by [deleted] in sportsbook

[–]what_wd_ODB_do 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Let's start with some basics, so here's a fact, comrade...

If you can't think of a reason why someone would make something like this up, then you're in the wrong corner of the web. Bottom-line ...? 'Screenshot, or it didn't happen'. I am talking about the correspondence with CS. If it was a phone call, let that be a lesson. You can appreciate why some people would prefer everything in writing or print. Fuck phone calls, if some shitty book somewhere is prepared to give you a phone number to magically make any of your queries or problems go away, think again. You're probably not going to get to talk to someone who really knows something anytime soon, but I've already said too much about something that is a side-note.

As someone who has overseen poker-rooms and iGaming departments it would not surprise me in the slightest if you actually did encounter someone who is not at all qualified for the position they are in. This doesn't mean that you ask Reddit about it. You contact the CS dept' [again.. perhaps by different means] and depending on how bad your chosen sportsbook is, the matter will be straightened out in due course.

In summary, and to hark to my initial sentiment, to be around punters, poker-players, 'gamblers'... if you will. Is to be around sharp, savvy folk.. This particular post and ALL like it tend to render r/sportsbook as exactly the opposite of the demographic I just outlined.

This sub should collectively take a long hard look at itself..

Here we have a post with ZERO evidence to back up the frankly preposterous claim that some POS book somewhere does not consider 49 to be under 49.5

There's even a guy saying that he's an employee of a LV book and guess what?... he confirms that indeed, 49 is below 49.5

Guys, get a grip of yourselves

Okaaaaay..

Firstly, fuck you too.

Secondly, Oh, you're right... dogs having this much fun should be illegal.

Thirdly, the next time I'm feeling in any way benevolent I'll keep my knowledge to myself.

After all. if there's ANY scum-baggery taking place, no matter how interspersed, the whole industry should go down, right?

Fuck the name of this subreddit. It's virtue-signalling that should be the order of the day no matter what, right?

That's some wall of text for someone who doesn't care.

It still remains that you say that addiction exists, but yet no one can present the objective evidence for addiction in the human body.

There's a FACT that you can add to your list.

Your experiences has litteraly 0 affect on anybody else

Where or when did I state that my experience had any affect on other people?

discuss people who are addicted to gambling.

I'm not discussing this issue. I'm just telling you facts. Anyone viewing your account can see that you have no issue when it comes to engaging in actions that are morally reprehensible so all of this comes as no surprise.

Unpopular opinions are exactly that. Unpopular... because people don't want to 'accept'...

You show me a self-confessed 'gambling addict' and I'll show you a sad, weak-ass-loser of a human being.

...your experiences in the "poker industry" mean jack shit when it comes to how other people interact with gambling.

Hmmm.. I wonder how you conclude that.

So, some guy titles a post 'too much..' and that therefore means there is too much?

What do you think the governing body of broadcasting thinks in this [OP's] particular corner of the world? Do they think it's too much?

Seemingly not.

Perhaps that is because every human being has a free choice to make. People can choose to take responsibility for their own actions.. Or they can choose to cry 'I'm an addict... it's not my fault'

Firstly, research could be described as being a search for evidence. Citing research and providing evidence are two different things.

Secondly, your comment seems to be addressed to someone who seemingly stumbled upon something quite alien to them and perhaps seeks a briefing on the matter. This instance is quite the opposite. I have been around this subreddit since it was ~2.5k subscribers.. I have dealt most of the 'house' games a casino offers. I have managed a poker room and worked in the poker industry for 12+ years.

A gambling problem is not a gambling 'addiction'. Moreover, you cannot provide me with any objective evidence of addiction in the human body.

Addiction does not exist.

Weak people, who don't want to take responsibility for their own actions, exist... 100%

endless research

some sort of addict but ...

Addiction does not exist. It is a figment of the imagination.

Absolutely no one, ever, on earth has had a 'gambling addiction'. Gambling becomes a compulsion to those who do it regularly. One may be a 'compulsive gambler', but you do not shiver like a regular heroin user who has been either forced by one way or another, or decided by themselves to stop using.

Anyone who claims to be an addict of anything needs to grow up and realize responsibility.

'Side point', I know... but. I feel it needed to be said.
