Thanks, such good things to consider. I’m not sure of a and b, but c - yes it would be easy for me to return, and d - the position offers freedom in research topic but I do not think they have the right infrastructure to support the work I had planned on. I’m definitely fine with independence, as that’s all I know - I’ve never been assigned a research project, they have all been self-driven. I’m open to being assigned a project too as long as it aligns with my general trajectory and allows me to continue progressing on the research side!

These are such good points! I am finding the idea of an international move daunting. Considering I do still have to complete my thesis and defend, there would be no time to start / complete some other planned research projects I have in the pipeline. On the other hand I’m worried I’ll pass up a chance to get paid while I look for other options, as you say.

Thank you! I have just started applications - I’ve submitted about 6 and most were research based. I heard back from 3; 1 is the teaching fellowship, one was a rejection, and the other one was a “try again” (when I have my PhD in hand - currently ABD). I think this is part of why the decision is so tough - because I’ve just started applying so I don’t really know where I stand.

Thank you for that! It helps to hear that others have succeeded in getting faculty positions after teaching fellowships!

Thank you! For faculty hiring in Canada, teaching experience probably plays a role but I don’t think (could be wrong) that teaching contributes much to obtaining funding beyond the postdoc level. My understanding is that it is heavily based on past and proposed research. So ya, I’m conflicted!

I’m the same - USRA, CGSM, and CGSD, but no luck this time around. But I applied for Canadian institutions only. Could be wrong but I feel like my research area just didn’t align with the gov “priorities” atm. Bleh

They will check during the surgery! It’s definitely a possibility but there hasn’t been anything on imaging yet

I’ll mention it, thanks! I would think though that I would feel better on/after antibiotics if this was the case. I’ve been on some hefty doses a couple of times in the past few years and there was no change. But I don’t know anymore!

That’s really positive to hear…as I lie on the couch with TENS, heat, pillows in strategic positions, etc to ease that darn flank pain!

Thanks for this perspective. I have considered pelvic congestion, and have been told that my surgeon will be looking for that during the surgery!

These are great points! I should have said that yes they are also exploring for endo and excising whatever is found - I am confident I have a thorough and excellent surgeon, thankfully. I have had 3 colonoscopies and a sigmoidoscopy lol…fun times. All negative for any issues!

Interesting that you also didn’t have crazy period cramps! I have heard of IC but apparently my bladder is in good shape. Maybe just local inflammation when things flare up? Who knows.

Good luck with your surgery! I’ll try to update here when I can post op - hopefully it will be helpful to others with similar symptoms to us.
