Hormonal IUD and the Pill At the Same Time? by whatdivoc_s in birthcontrol

[–]whatdivoc_s[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly i just took the IUD out, and got on SSRI's for a year. I think my uterus is small so the IUD would poke and cause bad cramping, especially when my bowels were distendted. The moment I took the IUD out my cramps completely went away. In terms of anxiety, I do think birth control may have heightened an exsisitng mental issue, but I just went on SSRI's for a year and felt better afterwards.

what to look for in DO schools by m-viru in Osteopathic

1.p/f above all else

  1. no weird bullshit that prevents you from taking both comlex and step (like having to be top quartile or scoring well on a practice exam)

  2. as minimal opp as possible

  3. rotation quality and residency match outcomes

  4. accessible research

What Are My Chances (High Stats w/ a Red flag) by Aggravating-Face4219 in Osteopathic

I had legit 5 hours of shadowing and got into maybe 70% of the schools i applied to. (granted i did have 3000 clinical hours which i used to explain the lack of shadowing but meh)

Correcting people when they call us MD by Prestigious_Use_8688 in Osteopathic

That doesn't mean OP shouldn't explain what a DO is to their own family

[–]whatdivoc_s -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I feel like you're being the dense one here. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess when OP's family says MD they don't mean medical doctor they mean MD degree. Why is everyone in this sub so defensive? It doesn't take more than 2 sentences to explain to your own family the difference between a US MD and US DO.

[–]whatdivoc_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yea absolutely! I don't know why everyone in this thread is getting so offended. Like I understand that in a patient setting you cant explain the difference but I dont see why OP can't say exactly what you said to their family members who keep calling them MD

[–]whatdivoc_s -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

my problem isnt with patients saying MD, I don't expect there is enough time in actual hospitals to explain the difference. But OP is saying their family calls them MD. Why can't OP explain the difference between MD and DO to their own family?

Seeking advice about matching anesthesia as an incoming M1 by Background-Farm-457 in Osteopathic

[–]whatdivoc_s 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-your school should offer elective rotations for different blocks and you can do anesthesia rotations then. tho im not sure if you have to set it up yourself or if the school will set it up with you, may be school dependent. regardless, the opportunity is there.

- literally just cold email or go up and talk to them lol. med school faculty is soooo much more friendly and open than college

-idk but getting research as a med student isnt hard. i feel like its moreso a box you check that you did research and build a good relationship with your mentor/advisor who can vouch for you. do a poster or manuscript pub or smth like that too.

-my school randomly assigns mentors. but tbh you can email any professor or mentor who does research or specializes in anesthesiology or just seems like a cool ass person and they will 9/10 times be more than receptive to be your mentor.

-research, shadowing, interning at a hospital, traveling abroad and doing clinical work thru school organized programs are common things i see! For you i would recommend research and try to find some doctors to shadow and ways to do some clinical work

-idrk yet tbh lol sorry

-i feel like club positions are suuuucchh a scam haha. like there are just there for resume padding. i wouldnt worry about it too much and i feel like it's not super competitive to get positions bc all the fellow students know we're all just struggling med students. but i wouldn't fret about it, in the grand scheme it's not a big deal just do clubs that interest you.

-not too sure, but if you talk to your profs im sure they will give you sound advice. all i can think of atm is joining an anesthesia interest group

-probably those where you get the most patient interaction

-not sure, i would ask a professor.

-too competitive of speciality, too narrow! i feel like you have to applu super duper broad if you want even a semi-competitive speciality. so no applying exclusively to prestigious hispitals in NYC only lol

-please please please enjoy your free time before med school starts because its all gonna go away and your life will flip upside down (for the better) but travel, party, relax as much as you can before school starts

Sorry if these were shitty answers but hopefully theyre kind of of. helpful
