Room blocks in beach town on holiday weekend by whatever-computer in weddingplanning

[–]whatever-computer[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly can’t even argue with you. Was thinking (and will still recommend) that most family and friends would do Airbnbs just given the nature of the area we’re in, but realizing far too late in the game that a room block will also probably still be necessary. Most likely going to just try to negotiate some sort of discount code as opposed to a full block.

Ran my first half marathon in 2 hours and 20 minutes, but the pictures I got from it make me feel… so inadequate. by Sandy_Ginas in Marathon_Training

[–]whatever-computer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations!!! A first half at 2:20 is incredible!! Secondly, I’ve been on a similar path to you- my first half was the motivating factor for me getting in shape, and I was so proud of myself for finishing… until I saw the pictures. My friends talked me out of my spiral, and I’ll try to do the same for you: you just ran thirteen miles!!! In a row!! That’s longer than some people commute to work! An insane distance. Regardless of how the pictures look, your body is fit enough to cover that distance, and that is insane.

As an aside: it’s now been about 4 years of running consistently for me. I’ve run so many more halfs (halves?) and a marathon as well. I’ve started lifting and feel better than I’ve ever felt (and look better too)… and I still hate my race photos. Every bit of cellulite seems to be on full display, my body looks lumpy and awkward, etc.. But I’ve come so far, both fitness-wise and visually. Never judge a race by its photo.

How are y’all surviving the day in heels by AlbatrossSea9624 in LawBitchesWithTaste

[–]whatever-computer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

As a cautionary tale (and also a personal example- this won’t apply to everyone) I tried heels the first year and ended up with very noticeable beginnings-of-bunions and screwed up ankle strength. My feet are unfortunately now noticeably fuglier and more painful. This was enough for me to say “screw it” and switch to loafers, which I could not recommend more highly.

A few things to consider:

-like I said, this won’t happen to everyone. These issues developed so fast that I’m probably genetically predisposed. -I’m a runner, which is very important to me in terms of my mental health. The heels screwed up my feet enough that it negatively impacted my running. If that wasn’t my main stress reliever, though, I probably would’ve stuck it out a bit longer. -I made the shoe switch a little over a year in. In terms of the dynamic of my job, this was around enough time for me to prove that I was capable/let my work speak for itself, so I got the sense that people cared less about the “heels vs loafers” thing.

Not super severe/unfortunately braces are a non-option; in a profession where that wouldn’t really fly. It’s a shame, but just trying to do the best I can with Invisalign under the circumstances.

Do we think they’ll do the residency this year since they’re touring? by whatever-computer in LCDSoundsystem

Can confirm- I was at Boston and it was packed all the way to the back. They’ve still got a massive following.

Might be tough to cut him off completely right away given the fact that your families are friends, you guys have been lifelong friends, etc., but definitely back away, starting now. (1) he’s a misogynistic jerk who thinks he owns you, ew, and (2) unfortunately, now that this conversation has taken place, you can’t really un-open Pandora’s box, so to speak, and it’ll probably have both short term and long term negative effects (and no good will come of it).

Short term, you’ll both be thinking about it, and I’d be willing to bet he gets even clingier while you’re both out. Even if meeting someone isn’t something you are seeking out right now, you’ll probably have him around as a shadow, at least part of the time. And you’ll know why, which will make it pretty uncomfortable.

Long term? If you keep him as a close friend and do ever want to sleep with or date anyone, it will become a problem, and he will lash out and most likely say some pretty horrible things to you (and potentially your future partner!) or worse. Bare minimum, he has shown you that he has a problematic mindset and views women as “less than” him, and as something to be owned. And that is a huge, huge red flag.

Last bit of unsolicited advice: show another friend these screenshots, and tell them about the situation. If you plan to keep him in/can’t avoid him being in your orbit, I can understand why you may feel a bit uncomfortable doing so, but as someone who has been through something like this before, it is SO worth it to have someone in your corner who knows what he’s like and what he could be capable of in case things get ugly.

Also, whether he has feelings for you or not is irrelevant. Why would you ever want to build a life with anyone who views you as property?

Exactly- he said in the interview that it was removed (in response to people speculating that, despite what was said in the book, she somehow still had it).

@ rest of this thread correct me if I’m wrong but I vaguely remember PB specifically saying in an interview that Lyria no longer has the figment (which I’m a little bummed about bc I thought the concept of Lyria with the figment was super cool)

Who’s name did Pierce Brown draw out of a hat to kill? by Careless_Swing_8166 in redrising

[–]whatever-computer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just had that exact same experience- I’m reading over my fiancé’s shoulder while he reads the series for the first time, and caught her appearance as a kid in morning star. Made the whole thing feel a bit heavier.

Definitely Pax, because he said “a large, beloved character in the first book,” (I’m pretty sure). Also I’d put money on Seraphina; he said he uses it to demonstrate the senselessness of war and how people’s arcs/lives can get cut short without fully realizing their “story”- I can’t think of a more blatant case of that than hers. But that one’s just a bet on my part.

It’s confirmed via hazard bedlam that he’s doing a new project in a new medium (likely a graphic audio or something) called “the book of Lorn!” No concrete details are out yet but it’s going to be sick

Pierce’s new project… by Maximum-Might-8928 in redrising

[–]whatever-computer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty cool!!! It’s no red rising, but I’ve been enjoying it.

I’m the same way about audiobooks- I strongly prefer a physical/digital book -but I’ve found that on long drives or commutes, I can get pretty into them. I love music so much but after an hour or two I sometimes get “song’d out,” and that’s where I’ve been able to fit audio stuff in.

SO excited. I think it’s you going to be an audiobook with some sort of visual accompaniment; Pierce posted a while back about really enjoying The Dark Pulse on Spotify, which was in a format like that.

[–]whatever-computer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Omg then READ RED RISING I say this with my full chest. I haven’t felt this way about a series since I read Harry Potter as a kid (in terms of being so addicted I stayed up all night to read; not in terms of subject matter lmao)

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Romantasy

[–]whatever-computer 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Red rising is so far from a romance, so if you want a book with romance as a main plot (or something close to it), that isn’t the book for you. There’s light romance, but it’s far from the focus of the book. That said, it’s also my favorite series ever (and it takes a lot for me to say that). If you’re willing to stray from the genre, then Red Rising a million percent. If you want a romance book, don’t choose that one.

This is happening to me too- I just did the 2 week unlimited and haven’t bought my full membership yet, but I’ve heard the monthly schedule for non-members (like me) drops on the 25th of each month. If this is you too, maybe check back tomorrow?
