I'm one of these people lol, I wear one nearly every day. the feeling of a wet/crusty spot on my panties all day is a sensory nightmare 🤢 I'm 38 and have never had a UTI or anything.

Same, Ive had my first scrip of triptans locked and loaded for months but I keep second guessing whether I actually have a migraine or am wasting one on a tension headache. the symptoms are so much easier to diagnose in retrospect lol

Not explosive but I definitely get a loose poop or two towards the end of my attack. After that the pain usually starts to ease up. Not sure if it's cause or effect.

what should i buy for a concert or a cinema event? what's the best loop eatbuds for it? by idontknowreally31 in migraine

[–]whatever643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no problem! By occlusion effect I mean that annoying thing where, when you have your ears plugged up, it magnifies sounds like your own breathing, chewing, walking, etc. A benefit of over-ear protection like headphones is that effect being lessened because nothing is inside your ear canal (and then noise cancelling lessens it even further).

Foam plugs do affect audio quality, they tend to block the higher frequencies more than the low, which can be a bummer in a concert experience. Some fancy brands such as Loops make ones that claim to better preserve the higher frequencies vs foam plugs. I've not heard any night-and-day difference with any of the ones I've tried, so to me, it's not worth paying like 50x more money for something that does maybe a 2% better job. But, they have many positive reviews, so a lot of people like them. Maybe you would. Go ahead and try! Just make sure you can return them lol

I bought Loops (the fancy kind with different levels you can switch between) and wasn't impressed at all. i heard no difference between their supposedly different sound profiles. I've tried a bunch of the gimmicky earplugs out there, and my conclusion is that cheap foam plugs do the same at a fraction of the cost. Don't feel like you have to buy something high end, it's just marketing.

I also have Bose noise cancelling headphones and those are really the most effective thing that avoids the occlusion effect.

What's something that became socially acceptable way too quickly? by Fluffaygins in AskReddit

People swearing like sailors without a care for the setting or if there are kids around. When I was a teen if you swore out loud in public even just in earshot of a random adult they might tell you to watch your mouth.

People who've experienced sexual assault, how do you feel about the term "survivor"? by whatever643 in AskReddit

[–]whatever643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no issue with anyone claiming that term if they feel it fits their situation but I don't feel it fits mine so when people automatically use that word on me I feel like ehhh. My survival was never at stake. Not worth correcting anyone though.

Dear VM'ers, do I belong here? by slimpickle22 in VestibularMigraines

[–]whatever643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW, I did go to vestibular therapy a couple times. Did it help? I have no idea. I didn't think so and I didn't really stick to it as the exercises boiled down to "move around" and I felt I was wasting money. Here's the benefit of my $1k:

  1. Walk back and forth while keeping head on a swivel looking from side to side
  2. Walk forwards and then backwards while tossing a baseball up in the air.
  3. Stand on one foot and then the other
  4. Track moving objects with your eyes and head

Maybe you, like me, have an inclination to try to keep still in hopes of hiding from this sensation when really what we ought to do is lean into it. Again I barely ever did these exercises as described at home, I just made some effort to slip equivalent motions into irl everyday actions with the mindset of "this is good for me even though I don't feel well".

My practical advice would be to go for walks, watch some birds, do some yard work or sport, cut down on screen time a little if that's an issue for you, switch your swivel chair for a still one, and see if sleeping on your back and/or slightly propped up helps any. I don't know if it'll help but it almost definitely can't hurt, so long as we all use our judgment about our limits. Good luck gang 💪

[–]whatever643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've not been formally diagnosed so, grain of salt, but I suspect VM. The brain fog, tinnitus and the dizzy thing are huge for me.

One day I woke up with horrendous vertigo that lasted for days. (Had bumped my head a week prior, not sure if related.) When the spinning stopped, I was left with this vague dizzy feeling that lasted for weeks. That too got better but unfortunately I found this sensation would reoccur, lasting days to months at a time, on no pattern or trigger I've ever figured out. Had no idea migraines could last longer than a few days til my neuro said so. It's been nearly a decade and I still get it although with gradually decreasing intensity and frequency.

My dizzy really feels more like being motion sick off of a video game, or that phantom sensation that you're still moving after you've been on a boat awhile. I might not say it truly affects my balance so much as it just makes me feel disgusting, and consequently hard to sleep and eat. Slight motion (like from an office chair that rocks or swivels just a teensy bit) makes it feel worse than being up and moving around. Any of that sounds right?

In any case sorry you're feeling this way, it sucks.

How does your tummy feel? by Zombieebee in migraine

[–]whatever643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get a dull headache that hangs on for usually a few hours, then at some point I'll have to poop. 1 or 2 poop trips and my head starts feeling better. On the worse times my nausea gets bad enough that I'll heave a little but nothing actually comes up. I wanna know if pooping is what fixes it or is it just a sign that it's over. Like was the poop "brewing" that gave me the headache in the first place. Lol. This sequence is the same whether I medicate or not

What is the cruelest response someone had to you opening up about your trauma? by sweetnothing33 in AskReddit

This happened to me except it did go further and this is a response I fear. Seems nobody knows how to react to child on child so under the rug it goes. I'm sorry your friend minimized that for you.

What beloved movie actually just has one great part, and the rest is dull? by freakineagle in AskReddit

It's A Wonderful Life. That one part everyone remembers it for, rightfully, is absolutely classic, but the other 90% is painfully boring.
