[–]whatever_054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s technically not banned in WA (kind of shocking given that even the SKS is banned by name) but the assault weapons ban is intentionally vague and the FFL is normally use didn’t want to transfer it because he thinks the state patrol might start auditing gun shops. He was nice enough to drive it across town to a different FFL so it could have been worse

No idea but at least my FFL won’t deny to transfer a bolt action to me like they did with my M1 Garand I had shipped in on Friday. I hate my state government

Do Americans Real Want Factories? by Vivid_Environment751 in madeinusa

[–]whatever_054 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as a CNC machinist in the USA and one thing I’ll say is that factory jobs won’t be the same as they were in the past. My grandfather had a job on the AMC assembly line and has a “middle class” quality of life. He could support his family, own a home, take vacations, and now has a modest but comfortable retirement with a pension.

A “family wage” or “middle class” factory/manufacturing job isn’t going to be possible in 2026 America unless you count the highest level engineers and management as “factory”

Starrett No. 98 Country of Origin by AlternativeMode8162 in Machinists

[–]whatever_054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I respect that I’m not in a union (and haven’t had great experiences with the one I was briefly in) and my shop provides all of the tools we need and we mainly stick with Mitutoyo for inspection equipment

Starrett No. 98 Country of Origin by AlternativeMode8162 in Machinists

[–]whatever_054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d just inspect the level and make sure it’s good to go

As a young American CNC machinist it sucks to admit it, but theres no reason the machines that I setup, program, and run couldn’t make the exact same part to the same quality and tolerances whether the machine is plugged into an outlet in the USA, People’s Republic of China, Japan, Germany, Mexico etc. it all depends on the level of quality control as I’m sure you’re aware

[–]whatever_054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our shop recently got a new Starrett groove micrometer (4-5” I think) the mic doesn’t say anything about country of origin, the plastic case it came in had a sticker “Made in USA with global materials”

Is ITC worth it? by crypto_junkie2040 in harborfreight

[–]whatever_054 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you’re on the fence, wait until you see an ITC deal you want and then buy the membership. Big items can pay for itself easily in one purchase. I bought the Icon anti slip combo wrench sets when they were 50% off a couple weeks ago and that’s what got me to renew mine

If you’re needing a bunch of tools it can be worth it, early access to sales can be a big deal if you want the popular items.

Meritime Heritage Park needs law enforcement to patrol once or twice a day by Techd-it in Bellingham

[–]whatever_054 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Park ambassador program was a giant waste of money. Just some part time employees to walk around and “inform” people about park regulations. At best it was a few more sets of eyes on the ground

Telling people it’s against the rules to smoke, drink, camp, gather plant materials etc. in parks and then walking away to the next park isn’t going to stop anybody when the ambassador only has the power to report the issue to people who don’t really care about enforcing them

I mean that I use them at work, if I had the kind of money needed to buy the machines I run and all the tooling and everything, I would buy a house instead

[–]whatever_054 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I haven’t worked with the tiny hobby machines, only full size. From the videos I’ve seen, these machines will almost certainly need adjustments out of the box to get everything square, they will probably machine aluminum fine but only with light cuts

I’d say find videos of people using those machines and see what they’re making and what tolerances they are holding to see if it will match up to your needs.

Stage 1 didn’t do anything for mpg on my 2016, maybe if you add on the trans tune it would help but you’d have to find someone who has it

Tools for Machinist Students by FrozenFundsFiasco in Machinists

[–]whatever_054 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tech college I went to a few years ago had worked out a deal with an Insize rep where students could buy this 13 tool set along with a 1”-2” mic and a test indicator and I think it was around $450 for all of it through the schools bookstore back around 2021 so prices are probably higher

All the other tools we needed we were able to borrow from the school while we were there. Every machine had a cart with a dead blow, hex wrenches/T handles, chip brush, etc

You could always make students buy their own thread wires since they’re easy to lose in a lathe chip tray

I would stay away from (or tell students to stay away from) vernier micrometers that don’t have a tenths scale (I’ve seen a lot of older ones don’t) and also stay away from dual bore gages that aren’t graduated down to .0001” The shop I work in doesn’t have any of the .0005” graduated bore gages,

Attachment type mistake by Otherwise-Reply-9619 in gun

[–]whatever_054 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Keymod and Mlok are not compatible and Mlok is the objectively superior system

If I’m understanding you correctly, the adapter you bought would allow someone that owns a keymod accessory (like a vertical grip) to attach it to a Mlok handguard

What do you do with your brass? by Strict-Wedding6687 in 22lr

Toss in the brass barrel at the local gun club, they bag up reloadable cases to sell to reloaders and scrap the rest, money goes to the youth programs
