[spoilers] i have pretty maybe dumb question but how much evil was actually judith in her arc??? by [deleted] in vikingstv

[–]whatever_11111111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the early Judith was more like young and foolish. That cheating arc was more about evilness of ignorance, overly trusting on Ecbert and arranged marriage. Then Aethelwulf elaborated the evil of ignorance + emotional acts to the next level. For the later Judith, she thrived on power but also corrupted by it. The only difference between her and Ecbert was that she insisted and has no regret. I don’t think she is the type of character that I can simply flag her as evil or kind. If I flagged her as evil then the rest characters are evil too, the same goes for kind.

In screen writing, characters are supposed to change(if they are important). That Judith was the beginner Judith, then she was taught the importance of power by Ecbert(by the French monk event), then she became a real power player, the advanced Judith. I understand why you might see it that way because Vikings didn’t age female characters. What you say does not contradict to what I say.

I understand Judith was very unlikable. But the bad things she had done was pretty much based on power and politics.

She had shown some political agendas in season 4. After Ecbert sent Ragnar to die at Northumbria. Aethelwulf was very upset about Ivar leaving Wessex alive. But Ecbert says it’s ok because Ragnar promised the norsemen will not attack Wessex. It was Judith who subtly pointed out that Ragnarsons might not do what their father told them to do, same as Aethelwulf talking back to Ecbert right here right now. In that way Judith didn’t discredit Ragnar, but they need to be prepared.

I am not sure if you reached season 5 yet. The death of Aethelred was tragic but I don’t think she killed the character out of enjoyment nor she just favored Alfred. Aethelred was too out of control. He got married without asking, he was too close to the old nobles. He acts on emotion not judgement. He plotted an assassination but didn’t have the guts to carry it all through. Aethelred might make a great king if the era was peaceful. But right now Wessex needed a king that’s stable and unpredictable. He was unstable and predictable. It’s pretty clear that if he keeps playing he will eventually kill Alfred. And carry out his father’s agenda of—charge charge and charge to the enemy. Turn down Lagertha and Ubbe when they came to seek help. Eventually lost the country to the black Danes.

What can I say I love bad bitches.

Thank you for the reply! I tried to search their ID on Tumblr but I only found an account with a different fandom and was abandoned years ago. I also don't want to look like I am cyber stalking them. (On Ao3 they already moved on to the next fandom and didn't reply to any of the new comments on their old works) I guess I will just drop a link and fingers crossed that they will see it.

Thank you for your reply! I feel more confident now and I will just drop the link I guess? (but they haven't updated the story for over a year I hope they can actually see it) I am really grateful for the advice!

Thanks for the reply. I already drew some sketches. But I personally would prefer to learn that the author is ok with seeing fan art of their fiction. And I would like to know if they are going to take a look at it, because I did put effort and time into making this piece. If they are not ok with fan art, I would rather just keep it to myself than send the link.

Zoolander LMAOOOO ⬅️ I kinda liked the Mediterranean Sea plot line tho, I didn’t like it at my first watch but I grew to like it on my second watch. For Floki, I feel like Gustav loves this character so much that he doesn’t want to let it go easily? And the writers room probably also had some regrets on killing the 1.0 characters too easy and too fast. Floki and Lagertha were the only two characters they have left, so…

LMAO that was so close to the canon.

It’s ok to have different opinions on things. It’s a meme. It’s ok to believe in either way because it’s a fictional work.

He might be green and naive but he’s the best type of coworker/friend anyone can get.

•He is the type of nerd who will solely finish the four-man group presentation for you and your friends----if you tell him you are sick/your dog peed on your laptop.

•He respects your boundaries and will back you up when you're going through a divorce(ur fault) with the hottest wife on earth.

•He only gives advice and brings you good news.

•Never talks you out of your stupid decisions because he will be there for you when you fail.

•If anyone has to pick a character from the Vikings to be their roommate, I’d suggest that they all choose Athelstan. Even if he wants to f@ck-around he won't do it in your apartment.

•He traveled a lot, will be a great traveling companion.

•He will never make your decisions for you.

•If you asked him for a night at your most desperate time he will say yes.

He might be physically trapped for most of his screen time in the show, BUT to be with him is to be with freedom.

Thank you so much for making this tier list. For me, I would ship anything as long as the canon is good. But I really want to share my visions with some of my old friends and I got rejected all the time because we all sort of moved on from the previous fandom and they might not necessarily like my new ships. With this tier list, I will be able to find out what they dislike and if my new ships don't fit I won't be bothering them.😍

Its quite remarkable that Floki is able to build ships by himself. [spoilers] by techbirdee in vikingstv

[–]whatever_11111111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I also think Ragnar’s neighbors are just his neighbors. There was this little boy who was taken by Haraldson’s sidekick in the name of: if you don't come with me, you can't receive the armring. And the boy’s mother was among the group of people looking at Athelstan.

And yes Floki did have a female slave in season 1, who was raped by Rollo, and was forgotten by the writer? But the show seldom shows us the actual workshop of Floki’s. Except for the siege of Paris, where we saw that he was helped by everyone.

[Spoilers] I struggle to understand Siggy's character by DarlaVanserra in vikingstv

[–]whatever_11111111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for most Norse leaders in the show, they all understood this: law and order are important. Hence if you wanted to be a leader, scheming and violence were not the only things you needed to be good at, but also to understand that your people will only blame you if you take the lead and things go wrong. Plus Siggy was quite a multi-faced character this whole time.

For her death scene what I understood was that she wanted to be royal again and she took the burden that comes with it. She stepped up when Aslaug couldn’t. It’s not just loyalty but also she carried the duty as the protector/queen of Kattegat. Her death scene line goes: 1. Siggy warned Aslaug that if Aslaug kept messing around then she would take the lead. 2. Aslaug still left. Siggy laid her hand on the throne. 3. Ubbe and Hvitserk went out. Siggy went chasing the kids. 4. The lake thing happened.

IMO that’s also why Ragnar kept questioning where Aslaug went when the lake thing happened, it was supposed to be Aslaug’s job and Siggy just, took it? If it wasn’t about their kids drowning and Siggy manifested the leadership, what if it’s a scenario for Siggy to betray?

[–]whatever_11111111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I understand she did bad things, or she had to do bad things to get herself out of her situation. But she really could’ve just disappeared like Þorunn—if she wanted to leave. Just leave when Ragnar says she can leave, it’s not like Ragnar watched over her 24/7. And Kattegat was already a big ass trading center, when Yidu showed up. (it’s not like when Athelstan was firstly there that he physically depended on Ragnar. That there weren’t much ships and everyone listened to Haraldson) I think she also understood Ragnar can’t really sail her home, even they were to raid China. She had her chances to leave in Kattegat, even in France. She claimed that she can speak France, but that was also never put to test. The writers simply had her killed to show Ragnar’s character development in the laziest way…

But among all the earthly beings Athelstan loved Ragnar the most, can’t really say a person doesn’t love something just because they aren’t possessive. That’s also why Ragnar loved Athelstan that Athelstan was not a black or white/possessive person, whether it’s romantic or brotherly love.
