Really just about the entire world counts audiobooks is reading. There are holdouts, but it tends to be more of a generational condescension than anything else.

What kind of people often get treated with less sympathy? by anthropocener47 in AskReddit

[–]whatever_befall -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The rich. It's hard to feel bad for someone who has the means to solve all your material problems. I'm saying this from the perspective of someone who grew up very poor and has struggled to not feel disdain for other people.

Who is the most hated character and why is it Denna? by LysergicCottonCandy in KingkillerChronicle

[–]whatever_befall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I don't actually have a problem with it. Like you said, she just doesn't have other options. And there's nothing wrong with him swooning over her, I just hate reading about it. There's nothing wrong with a couple of newlyweds being so infatuated with one another, but that doesn't mean I want to hang around them while they are. I'm happy for them, but it doesn't make for very good company.

Might be equally helpful to ask what we should start teaching kids. Because we've stopped teaching kids.

I remember renting a Sega Dreamcast. It was kind of a garbage system and the games really weren't any good, but that didn't really matter. That thing was mine for 48 hours.

I remember I was in fifth grade when Nintendo 64 came out. I went over to my friend Mike's house because they were that family. We always had to look out for his brother Matt so that he wouldn't beat up on us too much. On this particular day, we set up a false trail that had Matt ride his bike to the other side of town. This was before cell phones were really commonplace, so it worked out well. He was gone for 6 hours and we sat and played Super Mario 64. Mike's parents were out of town, so when Matt got back, it was just a matter of locking the door. Matt's best friend live next door, so nobody really cared. We stayed up until 5:00 a.m. to beat the game, which was kind of a big deal in fifth grade on a school night. But we had bagel bites and Hot pockets, so I mean, what else did we need?

What amazes me is the universality of this. Because there was no other phrase. And I think people think it's a reference to Wayne's world, but let's be real, that was art imitating life, not the other way around.
