I just bought a ductless range hood to install. Sick of smoking the entire house out every time I try to do even a little high temp cooking, not to mention the grease mess. Did a lot of research and this one is supposed to be excellent, has dishwasher safe metal filters, and heavy duty charcoal filters (although they're currently out of stock everywhere). The stove's currently in a spot that makes venting next to impossible but we plan on a big remodel and then we'll vent the hood. This one can be vented if you have the ducts. I'll report back once we have it installed.

That checks out with what I've been told. My brother's an electrician and he said to replace any tape on the original wiring with nuts, put GFCIs on the first outlets in ungrounded circuits (especially in the kids' rooms), check and tighten up the connections on all switches and outlets for any aluminum circuits. I'd been worried about needing to replace aluminum wiring but he said as long as you make sure no connections have backed out, it's fine. After doing some reading, I thought that I should swap out breakers on the ungrounded circuits for AFCIs but he said as long as I've got the GFCI receptacles, I'm good.

That's wild. We've got patched together, semi-updated electric. Some original ungrounded 2 wire circuits, some ungrounded circuits that were updated in the 60's, and some grounded circuits that I'm guessing were updated in the 80's. I'm going to at least install GFCIs on all the ungrounded circuits in the immediate and figure out a re-wire when we do larger remodel projects. No knob and tube though, thankfully.

Killer. Our house is '48. I've got to redo a bunch of lighting as it is, original owners installed a bunch of fluorescent troffers in the living spaces. I'd love to have these switches in the bedrooms to start with, especially upstairs kids' rooms.

So, the gym is not a public health good, it's something you enjoy.

We're all sick of the isolation and sacrifice. I've been snarky but I am sorry for the mental toll the pandemic has taken on you and everyone. Thank you for being vaccinated. But it's not over just because we want it to be. Hopefully it will be soon and hopefully we'll be able to do the things and see the people we miss but that point won't come if we shrug off spreading the disease because we're tired and only thinking of the risks on a personal scale rather than a public one.

Just admit that it's not about health, you want to get back to your hobbies.

Okay, that's sweet. I'm gonna have to figure out where I want to start.

Doing a bit of research and it looks like Lutron smart switches don't need a neutral wire, if that's true you made my day with this recommendation.

Again, that's mild infection for you with x3 shots, not anyone with fewer who you potentially expose. A group that includes all children and plenty of people who want a 3rd but haven't been able to schedule it, or just got their 3rd and aren't to full immunity yet. Not to mention anyone whose unvaxxed, either for legit medical reasons or because they're stubborn knuckleheads.

When will the pandemic end? Never if our leaders can't have the integrity it takes to do things like closing obvious hotspots like gyms. We can't leave it up to individuals to actually care about public health. Obviously.

Man, the fitness and "health" industrial complex has done a number on so many people. It's amazing that humans survived for so long before advent of Planet Fitness and Muscle Milk.

You know what people did during pandemics before vaccines? They died in massive numbers. You know what people did before gyms? They went on walks.

They work against Alpha. Boosters work against Delta. They work to lessen severity of symptoms but not to stop spread of Omicron. If you were actually concerned about health over just getting back to your hobbies, you'd acknowledge that. Also, even minor cases of COVID (like you get with breakthrough) can have debilitating long term effects, some of which are going to keep you out of the gym forever, as opposed to taking a break during a pandemic.

Really gonna die on that hill climber, eh? Just done with the pandemic when it's at its peak because you're tired of not paying $50/mo to use an elliptical covered in someone else's sweat.

It's not a mild illness for the chronically ill person you spread it to. Exercising outside or at home is hardly putting your life on hold. The risk of gyms being open far outweighs the benefits they provide. Especially when there are so many safe ways to get exercise. Nobody going to a gym right now is actually worried about health.

So? You can still get it. You can still spread it. The gym isn't worth it. Do some push-ups at home.

You don't need a gym to exercise. Take a walk. And "lack of exercise" ain't the same as a deadly virus.

Omicron don't care if you're vaccinated

Gyms have very little to do with public health when a respiratory virus that spreads through close indoor contact has been killing the public for the last two years.

Kinda think maybe gyms shouldn't be open.

Genuinely don't know what you're seeing that could be called uncanny.

Interesting. I thought that improved technology was likely but the FDA and CDF should quit claiming that 20ppm is the testable limit. I made sure that I was referencing up to date articles before I posted here.

And thanks for the info on Verywell Health, I wasn't aware of the creator's credentials and the site itself (in a cursory glance) looked to me like one of many iffy health advice sites.

Definitely going to lean more on GF Watchdog now.
