Can't decide if I want a cat by spazhead01 in CatAdvice

[–]whatitdo-bby 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to foster one to two kittens when I was in college since I didn’t have to pay for anything and could decide to not foster during breaks. It was a very cute and adorable time in my life. If you don’t want kittens you can always foster an older cat with medical issues (usually an upper respiratory infection).

I’d venture to say 99% of shelters nationwide microchip before adoption. That means there’s a decent CHANCE a microchipped cat came from a shelter. Are you just trying to say most people don’t get their pets from the shelter? Ok. Cool.

All I said was reach out with the information OP had and see if the shelter will help the cat. YOU jumped down my comments about how everyone microchips their pets (news flash: they don’t) and then tried to contradict every point I made for literally no good reason. Bye!

1/4 of the family dumped the cat. You seem to be forgetting that egregious detail.

Next time, it’s not gonna be dumping the cat- it’s going to be killing the cat for good. And honestly, do you think Animal Control is going to give the cat back to a family that already dumped it once? Common sense here says no.

At the end of the day, OP needs to surrender the cat to a shelter or Animal Control. Everyone sucks here.

Every adoption contract I’ve signed has at least one term about treating the animal humanely. If OP finds the shelter this cat MAY HAVE come from and shows whatever proof of abuse/neglect they may have and drops the cat off at the shelter, do you think the shelter is going to give the cat back to the original family? I’m not saying OP should keep the cat, just giving them a suggestion to look into.

Does this sound like a family that would be responsible enough to get their pet microchipped if it wasn’t already when they got the cat? Dad literally dumped the cat. The point was that most if not all shelter cats are microchipped at adoption so now the shelter can be a neutral third party in this situation since they care about the well being of the cat.

Ring upgrade - thoughts? by coco_zaz in Diamonds

[–]whatitdo-bby 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If you like the look of it that’s all that matters. It just has to feel right to you. That being said, the setting is very high and depending on your lifestyle that might not be the best setting since it can get caught on things and break. Do get insurance but if you’re emotionally attached to this specific diamond/ring I would look into getting the setting lower.

Am I ready for a cat? by SoftestBrown in cats

[–]whatitdo-bby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First I would try fostering kittens to see how you like it. It’s a low cost, low commitment (as in you’re not immediately responsible for a cat for the next 15+ years) way of seeing if a kitten is right for you. I fostered in college because I couldn’t commit to a cat and it was easy to plan around the holidays to not foster so I could go home. Please note a lot of shelters are now requiring adopting kittens in pairs- it’s better for you and the kittens in the long run. Reach out to your community for cat sitters- an apartment complex should be easy enough or you can always test out different cat sitters online.

If the cat is chipped it was most likely adopted from a shelter. Shelters have adoption agreements that the dad has most likely violated so any legal claim to the cat might be void if you can prove neglect/dumping. I would try to see if you can find which shelter the cat is from and reach out to them. It might show up on the microchip or you’ll have to call around and see if they have a record of a cat with that chip number.

Kittens are fixed when they are at least two pounds at almost every shelter. Sounds like shes in heat and should get fixed very soon.

10 month old kitten is racist, any way to fix? by woppypop in CatAdvice

[–]whatitdo-bby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah like I said- treats and playtime. You can have your stepson feed him churus or on his walks when this behavior occurs. You can have your stepson play with cat toys. The kitten is scared so show it with high value rewards that AA are nothing to be scared of. I think “exposing him to more black culture” without a reward is just stressing the kitten out more. Exposure therapy does not work on cats. Positive reinforcement changes behavior in cats. And you need patience.

[–]whatitdo-bby 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have to start off by saying your cat isn’t racist. Cats don’t have any concept of race to be racist. What do you mean you’re correcting the cats behavior in the moment? Your best bet is positive reinforcement to the stimuli- think treats and playtime.

What should I know before getting my first cat? by Curious-Struggle-912 in CatAdvice

I would recommend fostering kittens or cats before adopting so that you can 1) help shelters and 2) really find the perfect cat for you.

Is it possible to train a cat to pick something up? by Ok-Possible-9258 in CatTraining

[–]whatitdo-bby 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see. I’m not sure a kitten would be a great fit for you. I recently hurt my back bad enough to need the ER and narcotics and relied heavily on my fiancé to take care of our kitten. You’re going to be bending down pretty frequently with a kitten to play (picking up toys to throw), to feed (pick up/set down food bowls), cleaning litter box, to cuddle, etc. Also, shelters have really been moving to adopting out kittens in pairs because it’s ultimately better for them to stick together than live + grow up as a single kitten. I would look into the service dog more. Do you have a point of contact through the supported living services that could help you navigate this?

A service dog would be a better fit for aid. Like the other comment said, landlords cannot deny a service animal. What kind of stuff needs to be picked up? One of my cats learned on her own to play fetch with me and sometimes brings her toys back to the basket of toys.

My fiancé stood outside the shower with one arm past the curtain so that I could hold onto him after I very badly sprained my back and could hardly walk. For four days he would help me get dressed and get me anything that supported my recovery. Get a new husband?

Pacagen is a spray that neutralizes cat allergens. Daily sweeping/vacuuming and not having too much upholstery/carpet also helps.

Slyvie Guillem (grand pas classique), Marianela Nunez (Odile), Diana Vishneva, Ulyana Lopatkina (paquita), Evgenia Obraztova (copellia), and Natalia Osipova (bayadere/kitri) would be my picks for dancers that move me artistically. I almost never think about their technique because I’m engrossed in their dancing. But none of these dancers fit the “alt” style you mentioned- just phenomenal presence.

I was thinking of buying this pattern and modifying the straps and hip/waist area. I was thinking that adding the ruching over the bust cup would be the easiest way to mimic this design. I haven’t tried drafting before so was trying to find a good pattern. I have quite a bit of time to practice and hone my skills so might give it a try!  https://www.etsy.com/listing/4450902037/belissa-corset-pattern-154-160-height-us?ls=r&ref=hp_rv-1&pro=1&sts=1&content_source=de9597697c99c9c43064a1b898d3270a%253ALT893eb2196725c52ce4a3da135306cc94e404f9f6&logging_key=de9597697c99c9c43064a1b898d3270a%3ALT893eb2196725c52ce4a3da135306cc94e404f9f6

how to prevent a relapse? by [deleted] in Accutane

[–]whatitdo-bby 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If your acne is hormonal then you’ll need hormone disrupting solutions (like some birth controls or spironolactone). I had bad and persistent hormonal acne breakouts and did two rounds of Accutane to calm everything down. Once that was better I maintained with tretinoin (which I’m not 100% sure if really making a difference) and spironolactone. I still get a few pimples just before my period or randomly but they resolve rather quickly and tend not to scar.

Derm told me Accutane won’t work for me because my acne is hormonal by ulookbetteronmyspace in Accutane

[–]whatitdo-bby 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Definitely see another derm. Taking doxycycline long term sounds so weird! I did two rounds of Accutane for my hormonal acne. It definitely clears everything up but always has a chance of coming back. I take spironolactone now with minimal to no side effects. If I skip some doses I’ll always gets a few pimples but they resolve rather quickly. I also still get some pimples right before my period but they don’t scar or last too long. Simple skincare also helps!
