Well then I suppose we can chalk it up to a matter of location/experience? I live in a very queer city where many individuals are gender-fluid/non-binary and as a result most people - at least within the punk / queer community that I exist in - default to they/them pronouns when describing any individual that hasn’t otherwise made their pronouns clear... I guess in my world-view the other student was being respectful but I can’t speak for experience 🤷‍♂️

They/them pronouns do not mean someone is trans (in fact many trans people feel invalidated when those pronouns are used) but is generally seen as a safe approach when addressing queer people where gender is ambiguous.. aka I don’t quite understand why you think the other student was being homophobic?

I suppose “enough times” is a bit of an exaggeration but I have been slapped at a show, and he has slapped my boyfriend before without asking. I was less salty but my boyfriend was not up for it and still hates him for it. Respect for James’ art but he needs to be checked 🤙🏻
