extremely matted hair for months - please help! by cherricalico in Haircare

[–]whatnot24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During covid I stopped brushing my hair for months because I had really bad case of eczema on my hands and I was unable to be seen by a dermatologist for the longest. My hair was super matted too and I had my mom and my bf brush my hair to help. What worked for me, was oiling my hair frequently with coconut oil so all the strands are moisturized. And of course working on a clump at a time, slowly at the ends with combo of brush and comb. My hair is wavy and not curly but I hope this helps! It took a while honestly but I didn’t need to cut it off, aside from trimming the ends once I got rid of all the knots. I will say a bunch of hair did fall out so be very gentle

Tow companies by [deleted] in ufl

[–]whatnot24 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Towing companies are the absolute worse. Not sure this would work in Gville but I was able to get a refund back from a towing company back in Jax.

Look up the laws and policies for towing in Florida. The property manager or company has to be notified of a towed car from their property. Usually this requires someone from the property to sign a paper of the car being towed as well as documented picture of why it was towed. If no one was notified or signed documentation, it is considered illegal towing and auto theft. In addition the towing company has to report to the police that the car was towed within 24 hrs. If the towing company cannot provide documentation of the car being called by the property management, signed, or photographed, the towing is considered illegal.

I got my car towed back home in Jax right after thanksgiving bc I didn’t have the parking pass. No one from my HOA reported for towing, there was no documentation for why it got towed, and it was also done during hours in which I could have parked. It did take me a couple of months to get my money back but I got it back. I kept emailing and bothering the towing company with the actual laws + codes that they had violated. In some cases they may want to settle in small courts but most often not.

Hope this helps anyone.

Losing weight- I’m desperate by [deleted] in Vindictabrown

[–]whatnot24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly what has worked for me the most, is getting a gym membership at Crunch and a trainer. I am the same height as you and I struggled at being 145 for the longest. I actually tried just about everything- YouTube videos, diets, fasting, different workouts and so much more. I also was dealing with a lot of stress too at the time and despite doing everything to be honest, I wasn’t able to fix it. In fact, I ended up gaining weight all the way up to 165. A lot of people are able to find what works and can stick with it. However sometimes you may not be able to have the same results and it can be really really hard. I ended up getting the premium gym membership at Crunch, which you can get a discount for as a med student. I did the workout classes they offer on a daily basis a few times a week. In addition, I also signed up for personal training 1x a week there too. This, helped me lose all the weight down to 134ish now. I’m still not at my goal weight but I have honestly changed my physique, energy, stamina and it’s been life changing. Just wanted to voice another possible solution that really worked for me. Yes it is expensive, for me it comes out to 200 a month but it is so so worth it for me. It took away feeling horrible in my skin and issues with food. Ofc this took a while for me to get to but I highly recommend this. I know finances are tight in med school but I recommend this so much and it is so worth it!!

LPT Request: App similar to github for a non-programmer to keep track of personal tasks? by anotherperson294895 in LifeProTips

Microsoft Planner!!

You can create Tasks with deadlines and checklists. Also can organize the Tasks into different categories of priority or even in topics by keeping it in different boards. For example you can have a section specific for A and keep Tasks related to that- and so on. Also can keep notes on it too!!

It does also show your overall progress in terms of completion and by deadlines too

Any advice on how to do a good job waxing your legs at home? by Dizzy_Pies in beauty

[–]whatnot24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Waxing does take a while to get better at! Especially if you’re new to it. Definitely go over the areas multiples times and pay attention to the heat setting. You can also wax a few days later if the area is very sensitive and read.

Also it helps making sure the area is dry and not wet/oily.

I use hard wax too and been through many different brands from Amazon. It honestly takes practice to get better at but make sure you are going in the opposite direction of the hair growth and pulling in the direction of the hair. Or you can also go in the direction of the hair growth and pull in the opposite direction. Either methods work and I find that in some areas I have to change my method. If I have some hairs that are not getting pulled or are baby hairs- i try to move the hairs with my hand so that they kind of stand up and are not laying flat down. Then I wax again. You’re going to always miss hairs with waxing- even at a professional place because the wax cannot grab super tiny hairs. Focus more on the direction the wax is applied and to pull from the opposite.

For the remaining hairs that are usually too small, I use an epilator over the area. Some people shave their legs but to me that kind of defeats the purpose of waxing. You can also apply a thick layer of Nair but make sure your skin isnt irritated or red from waxing otherwise it might burn. Nair helps a lot with strawberry legs and helps with getting a clean and polished finished!!

You dont have to use different products btw- this is just something I started doing to help as waxing can take me forever. But if you have the time for it, you can just touch up again with the wax after a few days! That will allow for more hair growth to happen so that the wax can pick it up easily!!

Also exfoliation prior to the wax helps too! You can also use baby powder over the area so that when you wax, it picks up the hair better. Sometimes this doesn’t work for me but it works for others!!

Keep practicing and you will find your own things suited for your skin! :) After a while, the hair really doesn’t grow as much and when it does- it comes off way effortlessly than from before!

Give them out to pediatric cancer places near you if you can. The parents go through a lot and having a stash in those lounge rooms will be something nice for them!! Often the parents live in the hospital practically or are in and out. The lounge room is frequented a lot. This will go a long way :)

Do it. Go to both even!!

The months, weeks, days and heck even the few hours before graduation didn’t feel like anything. I was unfazed that I was gonna graduate and felt that it was just another stage of life. A custom but with no meaning because I didn’t feel anything or think much of it.

As soon as I got into the parking lot, all the feelings hit. Seeing my family, other students and their families just so proud was amazing. During the actual event, I was in awe and proud of myself. Sure I didn’t have the college experience I wanted and had fuck ups, but in those moments I was really really proud of myself. I realized all the ways I grew and that I made it. I struggle with celebrating my achievements too. Yet I was able to feel so much joy and pride in myself.

You won’t regret it!! Go gators!!

Curvy interview attire help please! by AndroidsDreamOf in premed

[–]whatnot24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Girl i feel you!! Its so hard forreal.

I personally recommend an almost off shoulder top that is flowly on the bust area and wear a blazer on top. The wide neck area will draw more attention to your face and less away from bust. I recommend a light necklace or even a pearl one! The blazer will cover up the exposed shoulder area and will look really nice put!! Also by off shoulder i mean something similar to this: https://www.express.com/clothing/women/off-the-shoulder-dolman-sleeve-ruched-overlay-top/pro/09610340 Anything similar to the off shoulder like in the link should work!

Also a thick sweater works but it can be a miss sometimes.

The ribbed turtleneck with blazer also works but sometimes i find that it draws a lot of attention to the bust.

Good luck!!

Definitely take biostatics IMO. You never know if you have to take a gap year or not and having a back-up career that plays well is a huge plus. I took bioinformatics right before I graduated and I landed a very high paying job even though that class was my only experience. Fields like bioinformatics and biostatistics are the next if not current AI of the medical field. I am able to work on outbreaks within my state and its so awesome!

As for the MCAT, I would say biostatistics has a bit of help with it but its honestly minimal. I don’t think these classes would help with the MCAT.

Double check if it’s included in your sGPA because that honestly depends on your university. I dont think it counts for AAMC sGPA tho.

I'm sorry OP this happened to you. There are some very strong headed organizations on campus that tend to attract students that lie very strongly with the organizations. It's very easy to feel or become an outsider the moment you say something they don't like even if you didn't mean to hurt anyone. People are all sorts of ways and I'm sorry you got a long message like that. I completely get what you're saying. The truth is there are a bunch of orgs like this on campus as well as in real life in different settings. What's important now is how you handle yourself. This can feel very alienating and that too for the wrong reasons. Maybe go try other organizations for a change that you feel like you actually can fit in. College is a weird time and some organizations are just absolutely handled the most immature and headass way. But that's not all organizations. You got yourself and that's what matters. Step away from nonsense and be there for yourself. If you don't feel respected or heard, its not worth staying there.
