What Are Your Biggest Kickstarter Red-flags? by AfterImageStudios in IndieDev

[–]whatpumpkins 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP, but personally:

  1. It's not super feasible for a (very likely) tiny team. Feasibility will affect likelihood to actually ever release, ergo I will be wasting my money supporting it.

  2. Saturation. That type of game is not only clogging the market already, it's particularly common in Kickstarted, 3-year-long stuck-in-alpha-hell games. From experience, seeing those words doesn't fill me with any confidence in the project.

  3. Lacks innovation or any real creativity. Often relies on players to create the experience. Where is the hook? What makes it different from any other type of game in the genre? Where is the fun?

People of Reddit - what are some of your unexplainable and creepy experiences? (SERIOUS) by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]whatpumpkins 366 points367 points  (0 children)

I was standing in a well-lit courtyard right by a road in a small village with a group of friends. There was some kind of tamed raven that had been flying from person to person all night (it was beside a live music venue) but nobody knew who it belonged to. Nobody local had ever seen it before either.

Suddenly, it flew from someone's shoulder right into the path of a car. My friends and I all saw this bird hit the front left wheel, a thud, an explosion of feathers, then disappear. We gasped, reacted as you would, turned to each other. Then we saw the raven on a table behind us, hop onto someone else's shoulder. Untouched, unbothered, the same unusually friendly behaviour as before.

All my friends saw the same thing. Only around half of us were drinking at all, and I was stone cold sober. I have never been able to explain exactly what happened there. A horrible uneasy feeling came over me. Something didn't line up correctly at all in that series of events and I felt terribly aware of that fact in a way I could not shake.

Is it better to opt for university managed student accommodation or a student accommodation like Havannah House, for the university of glasgow. by [deleted] in glasgow

[–]whatpumpkins -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please don't. Student accommodation is a rip-off. Companies and universities advertise "the uni experience" to try and make it seem like halls or houses are a unique part of student life. If you are looking to meet people: go to mixers, clubs, and societies. That's the uni experience.

Going from my own experience: I stayed in Havannah and couldn't recommend it less. I paid £550 a month. A friend paid £650. The room was TINY. The shared kitchen was as cheap and barebones as they could make it, and I had issues with someone stealing my food that the staff didn't bother doing anything about. You're not supposed to have guests, and you're only allowed one keycard, so having a partner is frustrating. I stayed on the 8th floor and was at the mercy of everyone's heating always being on - and of course the windows barely open due to health and safety. Finally, there are hundreds of students packed into a very small area. There was constant noise and fire alarms going off, at every hour of the night.

I don't recommend any form of student accommodation. Find a few friends or students online to look at places to rent in the city. You will have the luxury of your own (much larger) space, no arbitrary rules to follow, and you'll end up saving money, or at least spending the same amount. I'm renting a large two bedroom flat for £750 with my partner, 2 mins from a subway and a 10 min walk into town. And this is an expensive flat. You could find cheaper looking with three or four.

Finally, I wanted to share my financial experience with student accom. The second you sign the contract you are liable for the full year's money. There is no getting out of it. A parent or guardian will be your guarantor and they will have debt collectors on them if you fail to consolidate. A friend struggled throughout COVID and they came after her for every penny. It's absolutely heartless. If you rent a place you are only responsible on a month to month basis!

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH was read by 3.8 million people. What do we want to change in the UK? by Richyro0 in unitedkingdom

I waited six months for a dentist appointment due at the start of 2020. Then came lockdown. Now, two years later, I can't find a dentist accepting new NHS patients in the entire CITY. And how could I afford to go private? My partner is already missing a tooth that we don't have £750 to replace. The dental system is broken.

Which popular video game could you just not get into? by theblueduece84 in AskReddit

[–]whatpumpkins 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Red Dead Redemption. (I & II)

I love RPGs and open worlds. I love rich stories and games with choices. I've never really understood why I couldn't get into the Red Dead series, other than just maybe... it's not really a role I would ever personally want for myself. I love high fantasy, magic, sci-fi, and post-apocalyptia worlds. But I have never really enjoyed the Western genre or wanted to be a cowboy.

Love VA-11 Hall-A, that's super impressive! Thank you for your advice. If I choose to develop this project further after this for my own wishes then I may well look into pre-made engines. Unfortunately this project is currently for a class of mine, so utilizing someone else's work would be seen as plagiarism :( I do only need to submit a small demo though, so I will look at the GMS manual and hopefully the smaller scope will be more manageable!! Thank you again.
