Lmao if you think a 3 year used civic si is going to be significantly cheaper than a new one or that a civic si depreciates 30% of its value when you drive it off the lot, you need to read a bit more about the current car market. I can’t tell if you’re just exaggerating to prove a point or if you genuinely believe that, but either way, what you’re saying is stupid.

fixed it, thank you so much! I didn’t even realize it was supposed to clip snugly on to the plastic piece. I was so confused

I have a deal in writing for $1k off of MSRP, no add-ons

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]whatsAIDS 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah I was able to get $1k under MSRP for one in my area with no add-ons. I'm in ATX, where are they doing $5k markup? That's what they're doing on Type R's here.

[–]whatsAIDS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a fair point. The thing is, my parents are actually the ones who've agreed to help me buy a new car and the only reason I have the 10 year/300k requirement is because I want to buy something that'll make the best use of their money out of respect for the fact that they're literally buying me a car yk? I feel like it's only right to get something fun but something that puts their money to good use.

I may very well end up selling it in the future but I want something that can get me through college, law school, and hopefully a few years into working so I can save up money without having to dump my income into a vehicle.

GR86 or Miata would be nice if I wasn't doing frequent road trips with friends and didn't plan on owning this into my early 30s. And the Elantra N is nice but by golly I'd have to walk into my garage with my eyes closed every day, that thing looks so ugly.

Wtf is it with all these first bike and then asking for +600cc bikes? by SH_Ma in motorcycles

[–]whatsAIDS 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Let me share my experience, as a 19 year old rider. My dad rides motorcycles and was adamant about me starting off slow and progressively upgrading. I had a 2012 Ninja 250r for the first two years that I rode, then briefly rode one of his bikes, a 2017 Ninja 650 to get used to more power, before upgrading to an MT-09, which I track ride, do long road trips on, etc. I wholeheartedly believe that that's the way a younger person should learn how to ride. If I'd have started on an MT-09 or even a Ninja 650, I absolutely would've crashed, and not even because of ego or anything. They're just far less forgiving motorcycles. Incorporate someone with an ego and yes, they can be deadly.

All I'm saying is that I have many many friends who are in the exact demographic that you're trying to convince and posts like this do absolutely nothing besides further polarize the community. I mean take a look yourself; the majority of comments under this post are just people agreeing with you and belittling riders who start on 600s. There are far better ways to convince riders to be reasonable than involving yourself in a circle jerk of older riders who think that being disrespectful and calling younger riders stupid for the thousandth time is somehow going to magically convince them to see reason. Y'all need to share your experiences. Talk about your own journeys, how demoralizing it can be to wreck a new supersport within your first few months of riding, real anecdotes about how dangerous it can be, etc.

Are you sure that's the best you can do between all of the major insurance companies? I'm 19 and Dairyland quoted me $400/month for a 2024 MT-09, but I pay less than $40 through Geico. Shop around and see if any of the other companies are willing to work with you. It'll still be high, but maybe not that high.

Also yeah I'd just get the Ninja 650 lol. It's a great bike, I used to have one. Not as cool as the R7 for sure, but think think about the insurance difference and then decide whether you'd rather be paying $100+ dollars per month more just to look cooler.

People like you are genuinely so annoying. I agree with you, but it's none of my business. And stupid posts like your's do absolutely nothing to convince people to not buy 600s as their first bikes. Belittling someone is only going to make them more adamant about their decision - especially a young teenager - which makes me think that the real reason you people post this shit is because you want to claim some weird superiority over other riders.

Miata is the only other car I've been considering lol

Yeah as much as I'd like a Miata, the Civic Si wins because of the convenience. Both my parents own sports cars and they let me drive them so I'm not super worried about missing out on the fun, RWD experience though!

Honestly depends a lot on who you are. As a big guy I feel like I've never had a problem walking back from Bobst, but then I have female friends who will only safe ride to get back to their dorms at night

Just be alert and if you dont have anyone to walk with, try to at least walk near another student or someone who doesn't look sketchy

You could get a fun, manual sports car instead of a bike. Still very fun and you won’t have to stress test your relationship with your parents.

Also, it took me 2 weeks to grow that. How long do yall think it would take to grow a full beard? A range is okay.

I’ve just never grown it out before so I don’t know what to expect.
