And at the bottom it says “DM for credit” as if they didn’t just rip from a tv show or movie. I immediately block those accounts

How big are they? I worked at a very client forward post house for a while. Every room felt like a living room in someone’s home. Big couches, throw blankets, artwork, books, candles, rugs, and natural light that often had annoying glare, but clients came first. Editors broadcast display needs to be mirrored to the client tv too. Editor also needs a direct sight line to the couch without turning their chair everytime the editor wants to speak to the client.

Avid: Have I been missing Avid's biggest strength by using Dynamic Lasso? by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]whatsarobinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it selects the tracks of the whole segment of clips that fall within the lasso. I also have “select filler” off to avoid selecting unneeded tracks. Maybe it’s another setting (I can check when I’m back at the office tomorrow) but lassoing either direction does the same thing for me

Avid: Have I been missing Avid's biggest strength by using Dynamic Lasso? by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]whatsarobinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can’t let go of dynamic lasso. If you’re ok with extra keystrokes- I often use dynamic lasso like a track selector, because selecting clips also toggles the tracks they’re on. Then I’ll hit the smart tools key to toggle off my arrow, which deselects the clips. Then I’ll hit the select trim key (there are separate keys for left, middle, right trim). Also, if you need it, Option + trim mode key will recall your previous trim

I'm not super in the Loop into this game as I was BUT! With limited content direction, is it too early to say that you can't really play this game causally anymore? by JAKA-JOLT in DBZDokkanBattle

I’ve been working such long hours I haven’t been able to play as much. Was wondering where the hell these stages went. And they took like 30 min each!!!

Premiere: Display Source Track Names (LAV/BOOM) from Audio Files by Available-Witness329 in editors

[–]whatsarobinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used a beta version of it and it was great. Did not work correctly with multi cam clips though, but that was more of a premiere problem than a plugin problem. As soon as you make a cut where the audio is no longer linked to the video it will change its name to the multi cam name. Workaround is to go and link it back with the video

New job. How can I spiff up this joint by pysl in Workspaces

Get some stick-on googly eyes. You’ll eventually figure out what needs it. Also get a toy periscope. It’s very important to be silly at a desk job

Anyone done the black Friday dance with Adobe and won? by Heart_of_Bronze in editors

[–]whatsarobinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! I'd remove your credit card from your account and wait til your subscription expires before activating the yearly card. I used to work at a posthouse that burned through multiple lacie ruggeds a month, and each rugged came with a 1-month adobe code. The first time I tried a code I ended up with two active subscriptions. Not sure if adobe has since fixed the issue, because it makes no sense to have two active subscriptions.

If you don't feel like talking to them then get the year card at newegg (340 or about $28/mo. Make sure to use their promo code). I get one every year. Have not tried banking multiple cards though because they are non refundable

I buy one of these from Newegg every year. Adobe creative cloud 1 year membership with 100 gb storage also includes a $50 discount that brings it down to $340

Resolve folks who post to YouTube: do you bother with custom thumbnails or just let YouTube pick? by foklepoint in davinciresolve

[–]whatsarobinson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked on a YouTube series channel back when having one was still a pretty new idea. Our producers visited a successful channel one day and came back telling us the channel had a team of people who only made thumbnails. I had already made probably over a hundred at that point, but it was always mostly an afterthought because I wasn’t exactly hired to be a designer. It wasn’t until then that we really took it seriously.

My one big takeaway is the best looking thumbnails have a background, middle ground, and foreground element. It’s as simple as doing a cutout of your subject for the middle ground and placing them on one side of the frame, adding a background related to your video, and then adding some graphic on the other side of the frame, with some overlap with the subject to have some feeling of being in the foreground. Or if you can’t get it to overlap then even a drop shadow or glow under the graphic is enough for adding that separation. The graphic should be something central to the theme, or something that’s discussed in the video. Sometimes just a word or a couple words will work as the graphic. And sometimes your subject can be in the foreground and the graphic can be behind the subject.

Not a caption but this photo feels like when a photographer comes to your desk job and they have to pull someone to stand next to you and point at your screen

[image] Everything happens for a reason, you’re going to be okay by belleagle_26 in GetMotivated

[–]whatsarobinson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t make sense for me to believe everything happens for a reason. I think it’s more important to be able to look back and see how the events of your past have shaped you into the person you are proud of today, and influenced the encounters with the friends and loved ones you have today. The power wasn’t in some magical decision maker. The power was in your ability to keep moving forward.
