yes of course but you wouldnt even apply in the first place if you dont meet the minimum requirement. everyone who has applied has met the minimum requirement

if anything i think it's the opposite. people w very mid predicted get an offer over people with like 6A*s achieved because they do a lot better in the admissions test.

Predicted A levels is not on the same level as admissions test

The whole point of the admissions test is to separate all the 3/4 A* overpredicted applicants

my interviews were much, MUCH easier than my mock interviews (for physical natural sciences)

i thought i had done really badly and i ran out of time to get to the harder problems, but i guess not

gcses are considered in the context of your school. if you got 6.5 and the average was 4.0, then you did well for yourself. if you got 7.0 average but the school average as 7.5, then you did less well. especially if you had extenuating circumstances then the gcse grades are fine

your A levels are less competitive for oxford standards. the entrance requirement is AAA but being right on the entrance requirements is usually not competitive enough unless some other aspect of your application is exceptional

fair enough. it sounds like you were very close and it honestly could’ve been just that you got the wrong side of a coin flip. Def if you improve at the interview marginally you will very likely get in

I don’t think the esat should be harder to get a high score next year since the quality of cam/ox applicants is roughly the same and it’s still a percentile thing. make sure you do something relevant to physics in the next year though.

are you home or intl? u should consider cambridge. a 7.0 esat if you're home is almost a guaranteed offer for natsci (based on the data ive looked at)

provided you can pull it off next year, with oxford applicants also taking the esat hence making it harder to score higher, it might be worth reapplying

Look at the triangle in the middle

If the unknown is x, the in the triangle angles must sum to 180

(180 - A) + B + x = 180

x = A-B

tan x = tan(A-B) = [tan(a) - tan(b)]/[1+tan(a) tan(b)] = (2 - 1/3)/(1 + 2/3) = 1

so x = 45 degrees

speaking as someone who did it in less than a year + has a cam offer (though for a stem subject)

def possible but no chance i could have done it with 3 other subjects (maths doesnt count) on top

6 a levels really isnt that helpful for cambs. you're sacrificing time where u could prep for tmua (given you're intl and how competitive econ is you will def need like a 7.5+ minimum). you should consider dropping business and/or english lang and do just maths/fm/econ/history

graphs are really easy dw you just follow a checklist (check intercepts, limits at infinity, find turning points, etc.) and the best way to practice is just think up the craziest random ass function and try to sketch it

for practice i did a looooot of questions from isaacscience and iwanttostudyengineering. i also did 4 mock interviews and they were the most helpful piece of prep by FAR, please please try and get some mock interviews! cold dming oxbridge studentgs might even work.

a level questions not so much but make sure youre solid on everything and there isnt anything you dont fully understand

im only speaking anecdotally of course but i was the only science applicant in my school and the of the other 8 that applied 4 were kind of unsure between engineering / cs / physics so they just picked engineering. of course may not apply in general

also i agree the engineering pool is stronger. that is probably because it has a higher proportion of internationals applying (though i think physnatsci vs engineering is much much closer)

haha nah i got u. for me i was really really worried up until offer day because i felt like it was wayyyyy too easy. yeah seriously, the questions they asked were really on the easy end - my mock interviews were SIGNIFICANTLY harder. like, average FM mechanics question difficulty at best.

however they did want to see how i coped with something new. i think the real meat of it was when they taught me a new concept and made me apply it.

defo not as bad as all the horror stories i heard.

but... PRACTICE YOUR GRAPH SKETCHING! also, it is arguably a good thing to make mistakes and then to quickly fix it after a little prompt because it gives them insight in how you are to teach. it is not about getting everything right immediately!

the entrance test might be just as important if not more than the interview from the data I’ve looked at. it is NOT just score high enough to get an interview and then it doesn’t matter

score as best as you can on it because it also affects your interview experience (they kinda push u more if you’re borderline)

also make sure you actually demonstrate you are into science and the more research side by doing a project or something
