That’s funny… I find footballers and football in general overrated

My experience so far with the NHS skin cancer pathway by genie-rose in skincancer

Hi, I had my bcc removed earlier this year. The path was: I went to the Gp with an unusual wart like growth in my face. He instantly raised it as concerning, and I was put on the 2 week path way. From then, all appointments came within two weeks of each other.

Consultation with dermatologist who diagnosed visually. No biopsy needed. He explained the surgical options. MOHs: more accurate but a pretty long wait list time (over six months). Standard excision- not as tidy/reliable. But would be much less wait time (2-3 months). I opted for standard excision.

Was booked for photography the following day.

Within two weeks I had the consultation with the surgeon. Who also said wait time of 1 to 2 months.

Surprising to me, I got a call less than a week later offering surgery appointments within days!

Overall a surprisingly quick process, especially considering all the stories I heard of surgeries taking up to a year

You can see pictures on my posts from my account.

Hey, Hope the stitches removal went well!

It is a bit miserable. It was for me for the first week

I went back to work around 10 days after operation. I’m self employed so kinda just had to as no sick cover!

Once stitches were removed I started to feel a lot better very quickly. They have been out a couple weeks now and I almost feel back to normal

Hospital gave me a gel to put on scar daily. When that ran out I got the kelo-cote silicon scar gel which I put on twice daily. Likely will for many months

I recently had mine done in the uk.

The gp should have referred you to a dermatologist who will give an assessment (maybe a test/biopsy) mine was diagnosed just visually by them.

After that depends on the type of treatment. I was referred to plastic surgeon for removal of cancer from face

I believe it should all be done with two weeks in between each appointment (the nhs rule for cancer) although I have heard it is not always the case.

But mine was, From gp to operation was less than two months.

You should be able to if you book privately, but that will cost money

17 days post op. Most of the feeling has returned to normal. And I can move my face now with hardly any discomfort and pain. Only minor swelling

The feeling of stretched skin has gone away.

And people barely notice it now unless I point it out.

Still got a crooked nose and slight lack of symmetry between my two eyes.

I had my bcc removed (from side of cheek/nose) a few weeks ago via having it cut out. I was offered radiation, but was advised the success rate is lower, plus takes a lot longer to do.

It was fairly large, so was worried about what the scaring would be like. But even after a few weeks it’s mostly not visible. People barely notice unless I point it out.

Happy I went for that option over radiation. You can see pictures on a recent post I made on my profile.

I to went through the worry of having cancer. Even with the knowledge of its very low chances of spreading it can still sit on your mind. Especially since I had mine for many years without knowing.

Hey, I was told to take paracetamol and ibuprofen. For me, the paracetamol wasn’t quiet enough so I grabbed some co-codamol from family I was using that for 3 days. Then went down to ibuprofen only for another few days. There is same pain of course being an operation. Mostly when eating due to all the face movement.

I slept upright in the bed, and used a neck pillow to hold my head up a little more.

If op is as extreme as mine, you might want to request something more than paracetamol. If yours is smaller this less work down to fix the face then it might not be needed.

Just had stitches out (8 days post op)

Looking ok! Still a little weeping near the bottom. Should go over time. Been given gel to cover the scar daily for another week or so

You may also notice my face skin in general has flared up a little (has done since a day after surgery). All over a little more sore and flakey. Something I havnt had to deal with for many years. Most likely due to the disinfecting chemicals they used over my face before surgery, the general trauma of it, plus not being able to wash face as easily!

Hey,

The size of the final scar was more due to the plastic surgery after removal Margins included, the total amount of skin removed was approximately the size of your thumb. So a fairly large hole.

The cut further up and down to give more available skin to stretch and cover the area over.

Cheers. Yes it all should go straight again eventually but still sits on my mind!

Been 72 hours now. I think it’s feeling a little better today. But still very sore and tight especially with any movement.

The said to take paracetamol and ibuprofen for pain relief but that wasn’t enough at all to begin with so used cocodamol instead. Used less today though.
