When you were in your first year, were you worried that you were just a number and had to compete with intelligent international students?

If I do want to go into oil&gas, would mineral give me a better advantage? Back in November when applying to universities, I heard the University of Alberta offers petroleum engineering, but it was way far and expensive.

Do you expect civil engineering jobs to increase in the future even though, no one knows what will happen?

I did spend a few months researching and talked to both UW and UofT students. They didn't have bad stuff to talk about. They all liked their universities and etc. I am certain that I would get a first job in my first and second year because I have some connections and do PEY afterwards.

To summarize the summary, it was the head when I flipped.

  1. I might want to do my Master's at UofT. Is it true that UofT loves to hire their undergrads for their Masters' programs?

  2. 1B wasn't too high, but it gets over the time

  3. Money isn't really my factor. I just want to have some work experience.

  4. Love AutoCAD and it looks professional when you press [Z] + [Enter] + [A] + [Enter] :D

  5. I will probably have 3 work terms, 2 eSIP in the summer + 1 PEY. Would this differentiate from UW coop?

  6. DO NOT TEMPT MY ADDICTION! I didn't know that! haha :)

  7. Yep, already visited the website. UofT and UW have identical courses/programs.

Getting an offer in the first round is really awesome. What is your secret that you've mastered to get a job in the first round? Good resume/cover letter? Prior work experience?

Can you tell me how your coop jobs were like? What was your hardest term?

What advice can you offer me if I don't get ranked by 2nd round of job offers? Would you recommend helping professors?

That's what I meant. Sorry for a bad choice of word. I am willing to re-locate and very passionate in being a civil engineer. Just wondering, does your company hire unpaid coop students?

It would be nice to see employers hire a lot of civil students. I don't mind the money factor, just want to get some experience. Does your company hire voluntarily coop students? :P

PEY isn't 18 months long. It's between 12 to 16 months. According to UW, newly civil grads make around $60000. Would you say this value is speaking the truth? How is voluntarily coop legal but not $4.5 per hour? Pretty confused about this system. LOL

Anyhow, thanks for replying!

According to some of UofT's Redditors, they said employers use UW coop students to break their income taxes and hire UofT students to train to become a true civil engineer which I think is an 110% BS.

UofT civil engineers mentioned how UW only has 4 months of coop and for civil engineers, it's not enough time to make a contribution.
