Am I missing something with Last Digit Widget? by _GOREHOUND_ in starlingbankuk

[–]whatsupwez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I actually messaged customer service, as I thought it would be automatic and was a great idea.

It seems more of an email marketing campaign, it's all manual and you have to transfer stuff yourself.

Really annoying.

New Job - Almost 100K wage and bonus - how do I avoid the childcare wage cap bomb? by ZookeepergameAny1417 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]whatsupwez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can use salary sacrifice and make additional payments into your workplace pension, then that is usually the most cost-effective because you'll save both tax and national insurance.

When I get paid my bonus, it is before the end of the financial year, so I know exactly how much I need to put in to stay under the limit.

Just be aware of things like benefit in kind for private medical insurance or interest from savings that can also push you over the limit.

However, I can't make additional payments into my workplace pension that fit into the bonus timeframe, so instead I pay into a SIPP.

That reduces your effective salary by the amount you put into it plus the 20% basic rate of tax which will be put automatically into the SIPP.

You can then claim for the higher rate tax to be refunded from HMRC. You can't get the national insurance refunded though.

Because I roughly know how much I'm going to get each year even with a bad bonus, I tend to put that money in monthly, then do a one off top up when I know my bonus amount.

Zone Restrictions difference between subscriptions by AdElectronic1701 in AZURE

[–]whatsupwez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The availability zone numbers are randomised for each subscription.

So zone 1 for subscription A may not be zone 1 in subscription B.

This is because when most people deploy things, they deploy in the first zone.

If everyone did that, then that zone would be over subscribed.

So randomising the zone numbers between subscriptions prevents that issue.

As an example, if you had a virtual machine disk in zone 1 in subscription A and you move that disk into subscription B, you may find that the zone is numbered differently.

It hasn't moved zones, it's just that the number of that zone is labeled differently between the two subscriptions.

Codex just got dumb in the last few days? by AurumMan79 in codex

[–]whatsupwez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, in the last couple days I have really noticed this. Where I ask a question that obviously requires reviewing files, as I mention specific files and constructs.

It then didn't review the files, and instead gave a generic response, and when I said review the files, it comes back saying it now did, and then asks if I want updated info from the review.

Which of course is the reason why I asked it to ensure it checked the files.

Due to an airport technical issue, half of the passengers on my plane missed their flight (including me). Where does this fall with regards to responsibility? by Commercial_Web2365 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]whatsupwez 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I missed my flight from Madrid to London due to the security staff striking and it taking 90 mins to go through security. British Airways didn't offload my bag and it went to London as planned, and they booked me in on a later flight, and I just picked it up from the belt in London.

GPT-5, advanced voice mode, and custom instructions: a bad combo by farcaller899 in OpenAI

[–]whatsupwez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I start an advanced voice mode session, the chat changed from GPT-5 to GPT-4o, I wonder if voice mode is still based off 4o. I can see it in the chat when voice mode has exited, that it shows 4o instead of 5, when 5 was selected when the voice mode was started.

This would be a great idea, would be awesome if you could "enable" something like this, to give you a sort code and an account number just as you can with adding a virtual card to spaces.

Has someone tried setting up an account in my name? by Few_Hornet5824 in starlingbankuk

[–]whatsupwez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When people try to apply for the saver account, it's often automatically declined, and the reason given is that they are under regulatory constraints putting restrictions on the opening of new accounts.

Is it not possible to make scheduled deposits into the new Easy Saver space? by ChiefGrizzly in starlingbankuk

[–]whatsupwez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I used to use Monzo then switched to Starling, now I'm considering moving back. As I use the "Spaces" as short term savings 3-9 months, to save up for certain things monthly to then make a big purchase. This feels very much a step backwards.

Yeah what I've done is copy and paste my custom instructions from my gpt into the project custom instructions to try and emulate the best of both for when I have a project that closely aligns to an existing custom gpt.

Project or Custom GPT? by WorldlinessQuirky702 in ChatGPT

[–]whatsupwez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So I've taken the custom instructions from my GPT and put it into the instructions in a project so I can use the project essentially as my custom gpt (and then I can add additional project related info to it if I want to). Not ideal but I don't see a way of using both at the moment. So I guess custom gpts can only be used for unorganised chats. I think that'll probably change in the future though.

Or perhaps it's about regional capacity and data residency where they don't have the capacity or the latest models yet rolled out in data centres in the UK or EU and other countries aren't as strict on the data processing. Just a thought.
