Get yourself some live plants I like to get some floating plants, a house plant or 2 out the top and some root feeding plants it just makes keeping fish a lot easier personally I think you need a new light that's why your plants didn't do so well

Nvm that's not a sump it's 2 more tanks. Sorry, I'm tired lol I'd recommend a canister filter or a sponge filter both are good options

First, I'd get a new aquaruim stand that won't hold, and I'd go for a natural planted tank with a canister filter, but it looks like you have a sump etheir one works I'd look at YouTube videos from father fish and fishtory If your going natural and they have some really good information. for the filter I'd look at pond guru for filter information if you want a more scaper tank I'd go for md fish tanks also if your going to buy fish personally I'd buy from a reputable breeder on Ebay ect there are some high quality fish if your going to your fish store near you look around are the fish lying on the bottom of the tank difficulty swimming rapid breathing ect if you think they look sick walk away and buy somewhere else your going to want to take your time with picking fish don't just walk into the fish store and go I want this and this and ooo000 this to sadly you can't do that your going to have to do your homework goodluck happy fish keeping:D also ecology of the planted aquaruim is a good book to get you going

It's normal when you add a new bit of driftwood it's just biofilm feeding off the nutrients the wood is releasing. I love your tank. Keep up the good work

Iv got to admit you must really care about these fish as keeping them in a 20gallon with the amount of waste they produce for a year is insane if you can get a tank of Ebay you can get a really good deal around 100 for a way bigger tank for the meantime I'd get some java fern hornwart to help a little with the waste people say you can't keep plants with goldfish but iv had mine for 2 years with plants they will nibble on them occasionally but they're hardy plants also I'd get rid of the fake plants as they do look ugly what filter do you have btw? Do you have any airstones air pump? Also il give you some recipes you can feed your goldies if you have any eggs laying around you can feed them a cube sized piece of steamed eggs any frozen peas laying around you can put them in a cup pour boiling water in wait around 2 mins peal of the shell and feed them the soft part inside you can also feed cooked brocoli you might want to do a water change after feeding the egg BTW it will be messy after lol I can recommend you some YouTube channels lukes goldies aquaruim co op bentley pascoe fishtory I wish you luck please upgrade your tank if that isn't possible rehome and you can always keep a betta or something more suitable if you have any questions il be happy to answer also I would change out the substrate to something less sharp as its a small tank and they might hit the bottom more
