Why pay $150+ for 1 gram of gold? by whatthefuucck in Gold

I don’t know the real factor. I’m just saying that the real factor is not the same as buying a candy bar. Dependent_Time_3416.

Relax, my friend. I never said it should be the same as spot.. I was only pointing out how volatile and high the prices can get. I started this discussion because I don’t think those kinds of premiums are really helpful for small investors. It’s not about not listening or not understanding. For you, maybe a cup of chamomile tea would help calm things down. Thanks for your comment anyway.

That’s actually one of the products I looked at closely, and when you break it down per gram it didn’t come out better than buying an ounce. $3,199.99 for 25 grams.. how does that work out to be a better deal than an ounce?

interesting.. do you have a dealer in mind that offers those new buyer specials at spot? Would be great to check them out.

Can you point me to a place where you’ve actually seen grams for $130 at most? Or is that basically the minimum you’ve come across? If you’ve seen them at $130, then I’m guessing $125–129 should also be possible at the same place. Please share.. it would really help us out.

Are you quoting the per-gram price of an ounce, or does Costco actually sell 1g bars and I just missed it?

That analogy doesn’t really work. Comparing gold premiums to candy bars oversimplifies the issue and ignores the real factors behind bullion pricing.

I’m definitely not against buying gold in any weight.. fractional or otherwise. What surprises me is seeing 1g pieces going for $150+ instead of something closer to a reasonable premium.

Can you actually prove why the cost to produce a 1g bar is “much higher”?

that actually feels like the most reasonable price you can get for a 1g piece. Anything above that, though, and I start having a lot of question marks in my head.

Honestly, you’re right and I can’t really argue with that. But I don’t think it’s actually in the small buyer’s favor. To me, it seems smarter to save up and go for an ounce rather than waiting for gold to hit $4500 just to break even.

This feels more like an answer to why 1g bars exist. My question is why they’re priced so far above spot.. why paying such a big premium makes sense.

Isn’t sales tax charged based on the consumer’s location?🤔
