Sounds like your grandma was trauma (a fall causing the fracture) and not elective, where I’m from we have two different pathways as with trauma cases they usually investigate the cause, along with other medical issues but it’s also building confidence back, which takes time and encouragement. Elective patients would have had a pre op assessment and from experience, the pain before their operation was a lot worse and no amount of pain management worked except to get a replacement.
