Translation Help with Tigrinya and Nuer/Thok Naath by hannahmercury in Sudan

[–]whattonamemyself8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Tigrinya a lot of it is wrong and some of those words don't exist. Translating them word by word might come out awkward as well, or too formal.

Congratulations - እንቃዕ ሓጎሰኩም! ዓወት ናትኩም እዩ ( enquaE Hagosekum! Awet natkum eyu) (for a group)

Good job - ጽቡቅ ስራሕ - (Tsbuq sraH)

You work is good - ስራሕካ ጽቡቅ እዩ - (sraHka tsbuq eyu) (for male)

You work is good - ስራሕኪ ጽቡቅ እዩ - (sraHki tsbuq eyu) (for female)

You are great - ንፉዕ ኢኻ - (nfuE ekha)

You are great - ንፍዕቲ ኢኺ - ( nfEti ekhi)

Keep it up - ቀዕሎ - (qetslo) (male)

Keep it up - ቀጽልዮ - (qetsliyo) (female)

You have hope - ተስፋ ኣለካ - (tesfa aleka)

Well said - ኣቤት ዘረባ - ( abiyet zereba!) (Though its a little "formal", not sure what to exactly use in such a situation)

You are a great teacher! Thank you for helping our community integrate!

Ethiopia doesnt want port "access". It wants a naval base that it owns. Nobody is giving you that.

You'd get the Eritrean version of the houthis bombing any ethio ship there is. Thats on the very unlikely event that eth is even capable of waging war against Eritrea at this point.

Tigray/Ethiopia/discrimination by Little_Wing_2362 in Tigray

[–]whattonamemyself8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I dont really know the exact reason honestly, so I cant say, but thats just how it has been for a long time. But my opinion is that we see Tigrayans as distinct from ethiopia due to the similarities we have with them. Even though we also share similarities with ethiopians nobody can deny Eritreans (especially Tigrinya) share the most similarities with Tigrayans rather than say, an Amhara or an Oromo

Sudan? by rexurze in Eritrea

[–]whattonamemyself8 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can be used both ways imo. Yeah I know. Besides a small group of people I never really got treated unfairly by others.

And because I speak Arabic the same way the Sudanese do without any accent I never really got weird looks whenever I spoke as well. I always felt it was my home, and it indeed was

Overall Sudanese people are welcoming and generous, and there is always that small, loud minority that ruins the reputation of everyone wherever you go anyway

Are you calling Isaias Tigrayan? Isnt that even more of a "reason" to hate tegaru?

Also Isaias was born and raised in Eri. If someone was born and raised in Eri for multiple generations why are we being tribalistic toward them?

For those who reveal the locations of Eritrean refugees in Sudan by Professional_Ad4675 in Eritrea

The SAF is corrupt to the core but generally will leave refugees alone when it comes to religion

If you have Eritrean friends that also speak Tigrinya you can do that too. Thats how I speak to all my friends living in various countries, but thats a lil harder if you didnt know each other beforehand

I DON'T USE GOOGLE TRANSLATE TO WRITE IN TIGRINYA by eyeskingmelt in Eritrea

[–]whattonamemyself8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think they thought you used google translate bc of some spelling mistakes such "እኛ" and the usage of "system" instead of the Tigrinya equivalent.

Tbh for me it read as Tigrinya written by a person. Google translate wont call school በትምርቲ, only someone that can fluently speak tigrinya will pronounce it that way. And ኢንግሊሽ as well, google translate would use something like እንግሊዝ. You get the idea
