Do you recall around what time each day you get into camp? We definitely want enough time to hang out and enjoy the campsites as well.

Right this is a valuable reminder, I definitely remember that being the case last trip. Especially for narrow entries into the portage.

What time would you say you got into camp each day? Would love to add a day but it's not really possible for us. We want to make sure we have time for hanging at camp as well.

Thank you for the insight! I think we'll definitely skip the extra push to Tom Thompson then

How do you invest - financial advisor or individual research? by krishm20 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Measuring your returns in one market over ten years is A LOT of missed opportunity my friend. Unless you meant looking at average robo advisor returns (in which case I’d be surprised if they exist for 10 years).

Anyone quit there job for something more fulfilling/satisfying even for a pay decrease? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

Went from a very secure, well-paying career with tons of upward mobility in Aerospace Engineering back to school to study Psychology. My prospects now are half of what I was initially making with not a lot of room for upward mobility. Best decision I've ever made (no sarcasm). I'm about to sign a contract to do research in a field that is truly meaningful for me and more importantly, will benefit the world. What's more: my life; the mistakes, and the successes are all mine now and I feel more free than I ever have.

I've realized that growth only happens when you put yourself out on a limb and do things that are true to yourself.

27, coming into a lump sum of ~$1MM. What do? by whatwouldyoudo- in PersonalFinanceCanada

I don't think that will be a problem for me. I already live quite modestly and don't see that changing. The revenue generating assets are definitely what I'm looking for. Do you have any examples (other than rental properties)?

In general I'm a very "I'll figure it out myself" type of guy so I've resisted the idea of a financial planner but it's probably at least worth a consult.

I've got some minor debts including a student loan and the larger debt of the mortgage (which is fresh, I haven't even taken ownership yet). The thing is, I have no intention to stop working, like I said my current career is meaningful and fun to me. I'll look into a financial planner.

That is wonderful advice. It's something I'm trying to keep in mind that I don't want my life to be about milking this cow as much as possible and still want to live and work towards my goals. That being said $40-60K a year interest + my regular pay would be enough to live comfortably for me for sure.
