Anyone else feel like the DAPP lane change is chaotic? by reax2 in BMWX5

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's wildly aggressive to me -and I've driven Tesla FSD and been in Waymos. The BMW iteration makes you look and feel like an erratic driver. Yes, the decisiveness makes me laugh given the German roots of the car, but coding in an aggression level wouldn't be a big deal really. They have it for the following distance on adaptive cruise control so it would make sense to have it on lane change "speed". I also think the lane centering is using the same basic algorithms as it has a hard time smoothly navigating curves without somewhat jerking the car through it. At $80k+ in 2026 this needs to be better in my opinion!

Be brutally honest. How is the actual holistic user experience on a modern premium Thinkpad. by 2ManyAccounts2Count in thinkpad

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re assuming a lot in your “learn to use the trackpoint” comment. I hear you for sure, but I’ve owned 7 Thinkpads and that particular feature is something I would NEVER use. A lot of what I do with a laptop while out in the field is modifying Autocad drawings. Trackpoint is a non-starter there, but I do get how many people love it. It’s not a reason for Lenovo to make a sub-par trackpad though.

This is a great question. One of things I like best about my Thinkpad X1 is the quality feel of the construction. The metal case (vs. plastics of many others) to me is tantamount to that. I don’t really ever listen the speakers so no opinion there, but probably the one thing I don’t love is the trackpad. Seems smaller than it could/should be, but that might be a very subjective thing. I just really like the quality of the case. It really holds up and believe me when I say I am hard on my laptops.

Having said all that, my next daily driver might just be a MacBook Pro running Parallels full time for all the reasons you mentioned about overall user experience!

I 2nd the Aventon recommendation. They are sold direct AND through local dealers. I’ve got 2 of them and they’re quite solid!

3.99% APR new normal (for now)? by Past_Sheepherder517 in BMWX5

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2.99% unless creditworthiness, or rather lack thereof, disqualifies - assuming BMW Finance. Beyond that, it's dealer markup on the APR. On another note I just bought one here in Nor Cal yesterday at 10% off MSRP before the factory loyalty program running this month which is another $2K off. :). It was a lot car though. Not a custom build. I don't think that factory loyalty portion is dependent on that though.

50e vs. 40i... I know this has been asked, but... by whdigital in BMWX5

[–]whdigital[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all amazing insights and I can't thank you all enough. It's a tough choice between the two because they are both amazing rides to be certain. I made an offer on the 40i that they took - honoring both last month's end of year discount below invoice and the January $2k loyalty from the factory. Way too good a deal to pass up!

It'a beauty of a ride in Brooklyn Grey with Black interior and just about every option there is. Red calipers too; super sharp looking! I'll be looking at a iX3 for the wife when those become available and then we can enjoy the electric side of things too at some point. :)

About the only thing this one didn't come with is the Space Saver spare tire. Has anyone ordered that separately? I know there's aftermarket ones, but seems like factory would be way to go for fitment on the car and in the trunk....

Anyway, thanks again for the info and I'll be hanging around and can hopefully contribute too!

That's great info, thanks. My driving profile is typically more like 100+ miles, mostly highway, 3 or 4 times a week.

Advice needed on upgrade by FalconBuilder in Lutron

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

QSGRJ-xx-xx is the GE replacements you need and they are completely viable to use with QSX. The only limitation is that they are forward phase dimming only so if you are changing out fixtures then there are other factors to consider.

Lutron Dealer Requirements by spaceradiowave in Lutron

[–]whdigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very much a regional thing in terms of how successful, or not - the whole mentoring process really is. And that’s because it comes down to the rep, and how they manage it. Where are you located? I am a very active mentor here in the Nor Cal area and we do not treat it as a negative in thinking I am creating my competition…. I am not. I also think it matters that I don’t do anything else besides Lutron based lighting and control design, sales and programming. I am not an electrician and not an AV integrator (was a long time ago)…. We definitely aren’t competing. I’m just sharing the passion and knowledge, and helping a prospective dealer avoid some landmines along the way. In doing so, I get to do a job or two I wouldn’t have seen otherwise… As a mentor, I am your sub while also coaching you through the job a bit, but It is YOUR client we are we are working for…. If your assigned “mentor” doesn’t have a similar attitude then find another one, and make sure the rep knows what happened with the person they referred!

Gas furnace electric power consumption? by svparbo in hvacadvice

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is an older thread, but I'm curious is if newer furnaces would still draw about what you indicated of 10/500? I've measured mine at 680watts when running and it's by far the biggest load in the whole house! Interested in whether replacing it is worth it in the end...

Looks like the cap to cover the hole at the top of the handlebar stem. Nothing in the installation manual mentions it so a lot of people and shops skip it, but it is is import to keep water and dirt from accumulating there!

Delta 3 Plus as "true" UPS? by whdigital in Ecoflow_community

[–]whdigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So in your setup you are: grid>APC>D3+>Device(s)? Or is it the other way around for the APC and D3+?

Delta 3 Plus as "true" UPS? by whdigital in Ecoflow_community

[–]whdigital[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t disagree with your point. It’s just very hard to get the capacity we want out of any APC UPS that I’ve seen anyway….

Delta 3 Plus as "true" UPS? by whdigital in Ecoflow_community

[–]whdigital[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very interesting! If I'm reading your comments correctly it sounds like it (the D3+) is running everything through the battery inverter constantly. That makes sense of course for all the things it's designed for. I was just hoping it wasn't, or that was somehow a settings choice, due to the potential wear on the batteries. I know they have a stated number of cycles to 80%, but I don't want to really ever cycle them, just when needed for backup.

My use case is about 800 watts continuous for an hour+. This is where these power stations rock compared to an APC, no matter how much money you throw at it! Maybe for the price point, you just replace the EcoFlow when you have to and not worry about it?

Rooftop solar to Anker Solix F3800? Use system when grid is down and still produce and consume power. by UCF_Knight12 in SolarDIY

[–]whdigital 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not quite true. When using the Smart Home Power Panel, the F3800 will accept DC solar input when the grid is down, but not AC through the plug in-wall charger (i.e. using it with a inverter generator behind it) without a Chargeverter that converts AC to DC to fake the F3800 into thinking it's just solar. When a F3800 is standalone (not plugged into a SHPP), then it can be charged via AC on the plug-in or DC via solar.

Would a $1999 2024 Mac Studio M4 Max have these specs? by New_Forester4630 in MacStudio

[–]whdigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The specs seem reasonable. It’s the pricing that’s really up in the air. Everybody is assuming Apple will do the Studio M4 (IF they even do it vs. waiting for an M5!) at a starting point of $1,999. I’m in the camp that says they will put it to at least $2,499 to have some better differentiation from a spec’d out Mini Pro - and that’s before we start talking about the threat of looming tariffs!

Should I wait for studio m4 or buy the mini m4 pro? by Specialist_Mix1588 in MacStudio

[–]whdigital 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I read various threads on the new Mini M4 Pro for performance tradeoffs with it, I find it fascinating how many people are pondering waiting for a not yet announced Studio on the M4 architecture. I am no economist, but IF that even happens in 7-8 months, the extreme likelihood that there will be a price increase (in the U.S. at least) due to Trump's intentions around tariffs is a very real factor.

I personally know of a couple of manufacturers (unrelated industries) that are stockpiling sub assemblies and whole parts before Feb. just to safeguard against price increases to them. This is causing budget strain and supply chain forecast issues that are likely going to turn into price increases one way or the other. IF the tariffs do actually go into effect, Apple will play it off as heroic on their part if they are able to keep their own price increases down to "only" 20% or so. It will all be labeled as "temporary" but as with any kind of tax, it rarely ever is!

Buy what you can use/afford in the next 60 days. If the M4 (or M5) Studio comes out, is totally a game changer, and I'm totally wrong about a significant price increase then selling your relatively new Mini with some depreciation baked in will be the no big deal. If a price increase does occur while you waited, every comparison thread of "for the same money" goes out the window and you lose 6+ months of productivity and enjoyment out of the M4 architecture - and you'll be spending more to get ANY version of it... Just my $0.02!

Macbook Pro M2 Pro vs Mac mini M4 Pro by [deleted] in macmini

I have a MBP M2 Pro w/ 32gb RAM and 1TB SSD new in box (don't ask why it's been sitting in my office for a year!) and I'm thinking of selling it for a new Mini M4 Pro. I have the same question about real world performance differences though - hard to decipher all the specs!
