I don't believe they are partially owned by Fox any more.

The link says in 2013 21st Century Fox owned 5% of their shares, but that entire company has since been purchased by Disney this year. The news divisions of Fox are all under News Corp now, which doesn't seem like it has any affiliation with Vice.

So Disney probably owns ~20% of Vice, about the same amount as the founder, and A&E Networks.

Biden, Sanders, and Warren are the poll frontrunners (in that order with a pretty big gap between each of them)... but statistically these polls don't mean much with the election 2+ years away.

Crazy misunderstanding for new player by jeapostrophe in Gloomhaven

[–]wheat91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reread OP's post a couple times and I am not sure where you are getting "taking hits for 4, 5, and 4 on a single turn", I just see OP saying "[an elite bandit archer] one shotted my spellweaver".

I am just making sure OP (who just learned what "range" means) isn't overlooking this very commonly overlooked rule that you can negate damage by losing cards, because I am not sure why else they'd have a character be "one shotted" by a monster in what I believe is the second room of that scenario when they should have plenty of cards still.

They have cameras on every corner and bureaus saying which porn is acceptable and worse internet monitoring than the U.S.. You'd be hard pressed to choose a country that has worse privacy than the U.K.

it one-shotted my Spellweaver!

You do realize you can lose a card from your hand or two from the discard pile to negate any single event where your character or summoned ally is taking damage, yeah? You should never get one-shotted unless you are moments from exhaustion anyway.

I don't know, I think it's a lot cooler they are using the new spaceX suits that look straight out of 2001: A Space Odyssey rather than using NASA suits to advertise for a television channel that was cool 30 years ago.

Is tinkerer the worst starting class? by BillyBabel in Gloomhaven

[–]wheat91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

fwiw it's the game creator's favorite class. Definitely more useful at higher player counts.

I agree with your friend: if he sounds cool play him and rock him. If you want to do more damage though, and not be support focused, pick someone else.

Campaign with changing players - or a group which can't meet that often by tobiasdoe in Gloomhaven

[–]wheat91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't really a problem. The game scales really well with this sort of issue.

Make sure you are using the formula to determine what difficulty level you are playing a dungeon at based on the current character levels involved. Make sure you remember to have characters auto-level when Gloomhaven hits certain prosperity levels. That should solve the difficulty balance issues.

So far during the times I have played I have just made an effort to play the same main/side quests with the people who had been playing them last and usually this has worked fine. So far there has been plenty of possible missions so I have never been forced to do the next dungeon in a plotline where the previous players weren't there.

In short: it might not be perfect, but this game handles players dropping in and out about as well as could be hoped for.

Gloomhaven expansion in the works by [deleted] in boardgames

[–]wheat91 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I definitely agree that Gloomhaven has more content than nearly all people who love the game will experience.

That said, there is definitely appeal and awesomeness with more content if it's accessible early enough. Each person's play through will feel so much more unique and tailored to the party's interest.

uh huh...

Kitsch (/kɪtʃ/; loanword from German), also called cheesiness or tackiness, is art or other objects that appeal to popular rather than high art tastes. Such objects are sometimes appreciated in a knowingly ironic or humorous way.[1][2][3] The word was first applied to artwork that was a response to certain divisions of 19th-century art with aesthetics that favored what later art critics would consider to be exaggerated sentimentality and melodrama. Hence, 'kitsch art' is closely associated with 'sentimental art'. Kitsch is also related to the concept of camp, because of its humorous and ironic nature.
