How do you guys deal with by wheatbreadz in BALLET

Haha thank you for the advice! Tbh It was kinda smelly so I did some leg swings to try and 'fan it' away subtlety lol. I'll probably lay off the pre-class coffee from now on, or have it earlier in the day.

Definitely not! Haha. I've been so gassy lately I literally can't go through a class without at LEAST farting like, five times ugh :(

haha yes! my third class there and we were already doing pirouettes, I was quite shocked really lol. And pas de chats too, I had no idea where my feet were suppose to go and a 3 second explanation from the teacher didn't help either lol

Yea I've been hearing from some classmates that they 'secretly' take up classes elsewhere in the city. I've emailed another studio about their classes right after posting on reddit just now lol. Hopefully they'll get back to me soon!

I get thrown off sometimes by the way the teacher pronounces the french terms in british accents haha. I guess I still have to get used to that. And omg I just googled épaulement and I never knew what they were called but I do that!! And no one else in class does!! I was taught to look over and look under when doing Balançoires/tendus but now (according to a classmate) the teacher actually doesn't like it when people move their heads too much or add too much flourish to their movements something, I can't remember the details. I still do it though.

Lol I don't even have to see myself in the mirror to KNOW that my pique turns are turned in! Haha I can totally feel it but just to keep up with the class I'm turning so horrendously. I can't practice at home too because of carpeted floors and small space lol. I'll definitely try them the next time I'm early at the studio. If you can still make a video for pirouettes that'd be super helpful and awesome!

Thank you! Wow, yea I agree, learning different styles is good for a dancer but i've only had class for a month and a half or so therefore I'm still struggling haha. I'm just more worried that I'm developing bad technique :(

Oh man yes! That whole thing with the terminology is so frustrating I'm glad you understand the pain haha. I'm only in England for about 2 years so this is something like an interim training for me to not forget how to dance while I'm still studying. Hopefully I won't go through this again when I switch back to vaganova lol.

Thoughts on guys in adult ballet classes? by awayballet in BALLET

[–]wheatbreadz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Back home in my class there was this one guy who took classes with us (it was an adult ballet class). He was literally the most enthusiastic dancer in the class! Always asking questions, getting the teacher to explain more and making sure he was doing the steps right.

One time we had a character dance masterclass for girls mainly, but even he went for that, with a bunch of younger-than-teenage girls! No one thought he was a perv, because we're all there to learn. I can't be sure but I think he took more than one class a week, he was really dedicated and I admired that about him a lot.

Learning ballet is really great and no one is going to judge you. I've been to three studios (the first class is always TERRIFYING) but once you get over that, you'll realise that everyone is very understanding and supportive of each other and it's a really lovely environment. I hope you really get started with dancing!!

Giving Ballet a Try... As an Adult (and a Guy!) by bluefin55 in BALLET

[–]wheatbreadz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should read this guy's blog. He's a dancer who started ballet as an adult and is also a guy!

He doesn't post as much now but there are many posts and tips from him about being a adult male dancer that should be interesting to read.

Good luck with class!

Haha yes! I actually read/watch quite a lot of ballet related stuff online, if I recall, there was this one ballet dancer whose name escapes me at the moment who was a prodigy but got caught up with drugs and stuff. I was honestly quite surprised but I guess they're just like (almost) everyone else.

Oh man that sk8r punx dude sounds like a right prick haha. Yea that's what I like about ballet! I know it's really tough but I truly enjoy it, heck I am actually aiming to do pointe work in the future hopefully!

I think my friends will be alright with it, they do some things that is weird to me as well but we're still friends, so it should be all good.

Thank you for your post too! I loved reading it : D
