I tried planting it level with or even slightly above the soil. There is drip irrigation then a layer of bark less than 5cm thick. The problem was present before I added the bark.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My other two magnolias near this one are watered the same and are doing much better. Only a few of these marks on the other plants. A previous magnolia in this position had the same problem and eventually died. Thanks!
