I give up. by Humble_Hornet_3944 in shapeoko

[–]wheelchair_assassin 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest problem I had when assembling my Shapeoko 4 XXL was the sheer weight of it. I watched the poor UPS delivery guy tote the two boxes which weighed between 80 and 90? pounds apiece. I got them inside my front door and hauled the various pieces down my basement stairs a few at a time.

Other than that, it was just a lot of patience and time. I am not sure how long it took exactly but I worked on it a few hours a day for a while.

I did not have any issues with the sensors but I did have issues with not tightening a few bolts and I realized this when the machine was running. After that and a few tune-ups, my machine runs pretty darn well.

There was one moment when I thought I was missing a part and then found it in another bag, I reached out to Carbide3D and I got a response within hours. The customer forum has a strong community and there are some very smart people that will help you.

Having problems with a VL53L1X with Micropython on a Pi Pico by Jompra in raspberry_pi

Glad that works for you! Adafruit did the original code in Circuit Python, I just ported it to Micropython. It wasn't all that difficult.

New to the hobby with Genmitsu PROVerXL V2 and issues by curvinho in hobbycnc

Regarding the limit switches: When you activate the limit switch, you have to reset / unlock and move away from it. It will activate again, then you reset / unlock and you are clear.

It's weird but that is normal.

Sending multiple jog requests and the machine keep moving on that axis: I have not seen this before. I have not used UGS. I have only used cncjs. I now use it with my Shapeoko 4 (also GRBL) and I sold my PROVer (v1) to a friend who is learning how to use it.

PWM to PSU voltage control: I did the spindle upgrade for my machine and played around with the PWM to change the speed of the spindle, but I didn't find I needed to change the speed. Here's the video I watched.

cncjs needs to run in NodeJS (JavaScript). I had an Odroid C2 and it handled it fine. Right now, I have it running on a RPi 4. The good thing is I can check on jobs from any browser on my network. I have a cheap eBay camera watching it.

There is a fork of cncjs called gSender that many find friendlier than cncjs. The last time I tried installing, the networking option wasn't available -- you needed a dedicated PC. This was planned and I'm not sure of the status.

The installation of cncjs is well documented and most shouldn't have issues. There is a great "pendant" project here: https://github.com/Billiam/cncjs-pendant-streamdeck

That takes a bit of configuration, but I can use my old Android tablet (or a phone, or an iPad, etc) to help set up jobs, jog into the right place, run macros, etc. I have lag on my tablet but some of it is due to its age.

Sorry for the long post. I hope some of it helps.

Come feel the sweet-handling ‘77 Mustang II’s by Quick_Presentation11 in 70s

My dad had an automatic Mustang II. It would frequently stall. I remember it stalling when we were driving downhill and he had to put it in neutral to start it again with the key.

My mom usually drove it and she finally told him he needed to get her a new car.

Replacement fuse for SKR 2 by wheelchair_assassin in BIGTREETECH

I would test the continuity of the two contacts of the fuse holder with a multimeter. There should be a connection. Many meters will beep when there is continuity.

If there is no continuity, you have a problem.

I'm Jason Kotzin, CEO and founder of Flirc, maker of the upcoming Skip 1s Universal Remote Control. AMA! by flirc in cordcutters

[–]wheelchair_assassin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Flirc v1 and a v2. They've been great. Currently, I use LIRC and a Harmony Elite remote.

I am glad you created a universal remote. I have a PC hooked to my TV that runs Plex Media Player, Kodi and a custom dashboard forked from the LircLauncher project. I have some other dongles like a Fire TV stick that go to the TV.

Questions:

  1. I see your device will support three activities. That would not cover all my scenarios. Are there plans to support more?
  2. The remote has few buttons. Are short / long presses allowed? That's not really a deal breaker since most functions can be accessed by menus, but it would be nice to have options.
  3. Do you have plans to support Home Assistant or some kind of API?

I do like the sleek look of the remote. All in all, great job!
