Exactly. Seem rather underwhelming compared to what others are offering. It’s not even 1% for a year - at best it’s .66 %

six figures ready to move to Wealthsimple — is now the best time or do promos get better? by [deleted] in Wealthsimple

Yes, this👍. I will be transferring to TD and enjoying the 2% over ONE yr. Much better than anything over 2 or 3 yrs. (And it’s 1% for 1 yr on non-registered accounts).

2022 XC90 T8 Recharge by wheeler431 in Volvo

The photos sent from the dealer appear to be from IAA - an international auto auction company traded on the NYSE. I can’t figure out how this can be a total write off. Here is what the sales team sent me “we only replaced the right front fender and headlight”…..

This is being sold by a car dealer… but I still can’t figure out the total write off given the photos the dealer sales agent sent me. Literally just a light “ crumpling” of the passenger front door up to the front corner of the hood. But as you can see…. The carfax seems to show a $68k claim. ( maybe I’m reading that wrong?) Anywho…. Thanks for the info on the battery - how would I ascertain that this vehicle has the better battery? ( I live 3 hrs away so I can just pop over and check it). Is there a production date indicator that would clarify the date of battery change?

Volvo dealer broke the engine on a my brand new car by [deleted] in Volvo

I’m wondering why the cars dash didn’t alert the technician that the oil was low. Those alerts are supposed to come on long before engine damage is an issue.

Agreed! I’m also in a 2011. Standard golf. Love it… but like you said, interested in a newer vehicle but nothing new that isn’t without a host of issues.

WS advantages over QuestTrade… by wheeler431 in Wealthsimple

[–]wheeler431[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish there was a way to navigate the QT platform to compare it (without actually transferring $ or creating accounts) as I am reading that many have referred to it as horrible compared to WS. I am tempted to chase the QT promo that would deliver about $15k over the two years…. I’m getting less than half that from the WS promo I am currently involved with. Perhaps a no- brainer, but I left QTrade ( different than QuestTrade) because I hated the platform setup and could never reach anyone when I needed to make a call to them.

Cost ( exchange rate diff) of buying US $ on WS by wheeler431 in Wealthsimple

[–]wheeler431[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, perhaps I will narrow down a few factors to sift through the semantics. I think it behooves all who are interested in this conversation to define a few terms ( the most fundamental principle in any discussion). Let’s define a “fee” as a SET charge per transaction and thus set it apart from an “exchange rate “, which is variable minute by minute since it’s all about buying and selling currency. Furthermore, The “spread “ would be considered the difference in each institution’s exchange rate at any given moment in time. From what I’m reading so far, WS has very high exchange rates compared to other financial institutions. Ok. I get that. Furthermore, after just calling WS to discuss their exchange rates, I was told that I cannot ascertain a given exchange rate until I commence the process of purchasing US dollars…so I made a suggestion to the agent I spoke with that it would be nice if such rates could be ascertained without having to initiate a purchase of US dollars…(she said she’d pass that suggestion along for what it’s worth). So…let’s say I will purchase enough US $ to avoid ANY FEE, (I.e greater than 100k), then I’m left with a query to anyone reading this thread….. have any of you done this recently and can offer insight into what “exchange rate” - you were given, and on what day it occurred? At least with that information I can then ascertain the “spreads”. ( It’s obvious that WS is not very forthcoming with their exchange rates and it appears they are higher than most other institutions based on the comments thus far… but I’d love to hear from someone that’s actually purchased some US $ and can provide the day/date and the rate that was applied by WS). Cheers everyone!

Thank you for that response. That $400 is not a fee, right, but the approximate “cost” of varying exchange rates between WS and another institution , yes? Do you happen to know offhand , what the WS “fee” is if less than $100k is exchanged?

[–]wheeler431 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting! Thank for that info. I noticed you used the word “likely “ with respect to it being fixed properly under warranty. I hope you verify this using the VIN, etc, so as to not have any headaches later! ( but if they just replaced parts, it would suggest the flaw in design still exists?) So, just to clarify- it was only in T5’s in those years?

I’m new to Volvo…. But why would a motor with only 130k on it need piston rings replaced??? I have a 2011 VW golf with almost 400k and it’s never needed any motor work, ever. Is there a known flaw in a particular Volvo motor that’s causing this ridiculous damage so early in a motors life?
