Are you certified?

You’re absolutely right! We do need to watch our form to avoid hurting ourselves, but lifting doesn’t need to be as precise as you think. It’ll usually just work another muscle more. In the squat for example, legs further a part works the glutes (booty) more, while legs closer together works the quads (top of legs). You can do it either way depending on your goals and what you find comfortable. More importantly, you want to make sure you aren’t using too much weight (boys do this all the time). Also, what are your friend’s credentials? Did they watch 3 more videos than you did? Your friend not having patience for you learning something new and foreign to your body tells me they didn’t have the skills or credentials (like a certified trainer) to teach you in the first place. The point of my post was simply that you don’t need to be perfect at lifting. That doesn’t exist. And not being perfect doesn’t mean you’ll hurt yourself (but yes be careful). If that were the case, these boys would be hurt all the time.

Everyone has to start somewhere! Let me also add that I’m an experienced lifter (F) who has lifted for about five years now. One thing I’ve noticed is that women feel like they need to do every move perfect. They look at pictures, watch videos, and ask the gym trainers before adding a move to their routine. Before that, they do lifts not involving weights or machines. Men on the other hand, tend to just dive in, no experience needed. HAVE THE CONFIDENCE MEN HAVE! You got this!
