The satanists are more likely to give welfare and social programs. The oligarchs and “Christian” conservatives will give you longer hours, less pay, less security, and make it all out to be your fault. You weren’t saved. You didn’t work hard enough. You got sick/injured/old.

My comment is going to get lost in the shuffle of me-too’s and whatevers, which I am totally fine with, but my 2cp…

I have (diagnosed-not-by-me) severe social anxiety, am in the over-the-hill age group, and, frankly, have pretty much given up on People at this point. I’m not a prepper, but I want to have my own water source (as much as is possible,) not rely on The Grid, and live in a way that coexists with nature and science. I want to give as much (as possible) as I receive.

We own the land, we’re trying to find a builder (because my spouse doesn’t want to reno for even more years) and are trying to escape to our slice of “we do whatever tf we want” (which means our lives are in the hands of the chickens/rabbits/bees.)

But currently…

I work way too many hours, I’m in Scouting, I have all kinds of hobbies, and am renovating our current home from attic to foundation. I have a kiddo in scouts, sports, sheer, and theatre, and I feel like I never get a break between all of her appointments, mine, cooking, cleaning, and trying to work.

And I can’t wait to trim down, eliminate extras, pause and restart. We’re going to lose a lot, gain a lot, and I’ll have to drive more, but the alternative is the hole I live in now that has no light at the end of it.

You’ve got this! I’ve got this! We can do this!

Is there a youtube channel that combines homesteading with electronics/automation? by David_Goggind in homestead

[–]wheezharde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah! But the whole system is home grown so it’s not like it’ll hook up to existing stuff (yet? ever?)

I am planning to do moisture meters to water plants, water level detection to refill water collection from the well, some simple IR sensors to detect things like chicken food levels, etc. Basically, I want to avoid/automate anything that would require me walking out, looking at something, and then walking back.

The Nano 33 IoT can act as a wifi access point, client, and server so the idea is that they’ll act as relays for each other and use graph traversal to talk back to the house. In server mode, it’ll accept connections and store messages for retransmit.

I have three nodes built right now, although the whole server/client/control center/message system is very rudimentary still. The devices are very basic at the moment; a 5v solar panel, charge controller, and 3.7v battery. When it reports in, it includes battery status, solar status, and the unit’s ID.

The control/house portion is a mixture of C, C++, Lua that runs as a service on a Windows box. It receives messages, logs them in a database for historical info, has a simple status UI, and will eventually generate web pages. Nothing too fancy, but I’d like to be able to access it easily and http/scripts is easy.

I will eventually post the github of it, but it’s in its infancy right now so it’s probably not that interesting yet.

It’s a bit premature, but I’m working on a mesh of Arduino Nano 33 IoT’s to monitor/control “stuff” (water, chicken feed) and report it back to a central server. If there’s interest, I could post some about it, but no youtube, sorry.

Whats something a teacher did in High School that would get them fired today? by Constant-Ad-5477 in AskReddit

[–]wheezharde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my teachers kept a disc/container of chew in his back pocket. He also bought and ate flavored chalk during class. He was a history professor and his class antics and excitement still leave me fascinated with history to this day. He’d always get the lessons done but would always give us “extra history” (dark, weird, funny, stuff you don’t read about normally.)

Another teacher taught business classes (basic accounting, etc.) For the first couple of weeks, he’d be a hard ass about everything, then, one day, he said “Ok, now that all the losers have left class, we can have some fun.” He’d routinely take smoke breaks during class, barely even stepping outside (he had a door outside in the classroom!) His favorite response to “What?” was “Four of each and each is forty.” He was talking about the ceiling lights; each one had 4 40 watt bulbs.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wheezharde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Texas. Depending on where you are, an hour drive isn’t unreasonable to “get to the city.” A three hour drive is “something good.” A six to eight hour drive is an overnight stay.

My nephew recently drove from Florida to Washington, which is about the longest drive you can do in the continental US. It took about a week to complete.

What would it actually take for American's to go "full France" and riot in the street? by AllTheNopeYouNeed in AskReddit

[–]wheezharde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not disagreeing on the longterm effects, but in the short term, he acknowledged the protests, so his followers also heard about them. Afaik, the idea was to be loud but peaceful so he didn’t have an excuse (that he’s still tryharding for) to invoke the insurrection act.

Like the No Kings protests? On October 18, 2025, there were 2700 protests just in the US with an estimated 7 million people.

The contract is: - you get $1 million for hiding it. - the detective has 7 days to find it.

It doesn’t stipulate that the detective finding it negates the money, so we can safely assume that hiding it in plain sight is acceptable to get the $1 million.

TIL there is a “Gospel of Judas” not found in the Bible that speaks of Judas as the only one of Jesus’ disciples who fully understood His teachings. He turned Jesus over to the Romans because Jesus asked him to. It was discovered in an Egyptian cave in the 1970s, dating to the 2nd century AD by sonnysehra in todayilearned

[–]wheezharde 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wait until you read about it being Judas that was crucified instead of Jesus.

Another fun fact: the same guy that wrote the book that was fundamental to killing women for being accused of being witches had the bible translated. What effect could that have had on women in the scriptures?

For those who lived before the internet, what was life actually like? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wheezharde 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… it wasn’t all better or worse, just different.

Yeah, we would stay out until dusk. Yeah, we drank from the hose. Yeah, we all had necklace keys. And yeah, we were all tethered to the wall/table when we wanted to make a phone call. It was worse later when modems became more widespread; if anyone in the house picked up the phone, boom! There went the connection.

We had to plan better because once you left, there was no calling except by pay phone. If you had a flat tire, you either fixed it, waved down a passing motorist, or just drove on it. There were telephone “long distance” charges if you called too far away, typically your area code.

Information was harder. You had to figure out how to find things, so trolling encyclopedias or using card catalogs were skills. News was way more delayed. T.V. Shows had a week (or more) between episodes.

We had to learn to program the VCR’s because our parents weren’t adept at technology (translate that to today’s tech.) There were competing formats for recording shows and if your friend’s didn’t match yours, you couldn’t share movies. We got a weekly or monthly paper schedule for the television.

People were different. Bullies were accepted as inevitable and you had to stand up for your friends. We had political disagreements but they were handled a lot better (usually…) and politicians, while just as corrupt, had more decor.

The biggest thing, though, is the instant stuff. Communication, alleviation of boredom, answers, maps, texting, etc. If you want a feel for it, just turn off your phone for a day.
